Just replaced hood supports!

I've owned my CL-S for 6 months and I never knew the hood was suppose to go up on its own power! WOW! $32 for new hood struts and 5 minutes to replace them...I feel like I've accomplished something today.

I've needed mine replaced for at for least year now.And when I'm looking to get something something new it's never a thought.
S!@# I've been cracked in the head by my trunk ,and the hood slamed and smashed center caps dents threw the hood when I had my center caps sitting on the manifold.
It actually slamed yesterday too as soon as a tried to grab a rag.
Good reminder on some maintaince that some over look.

You would think after getting my head cracked by the trunk, getting some new hood struts would be priority #1

finally got around to replacing these. ordered them off ebay. it was a lot easier than i thought it would be. just spring loaded clips and they pop right off and the new one snapped right it. cheap and easy diy fix

note. the ones i got has some balls to it. the hood sprung right up. almost a little to hard. seems like one strut would be enough. just a note to self and be careful when i lift the hood to guide it up slowly.

It's really simple. Wait until you get the new set and look at the clip/clasp to figure out how to remove the old set. You'll only need a flathead screwdriver.

just did mine tonight, so simple I could not believe it. 5-10 minutes the most. $31 shipped from ebay. No need to get OEM ones that are $60+. the after market is identical.

Got mine last night at advance auto parts... $28 for the pair and a gallon of windshield washer fluid to hit the minimum for the coupon.

replaced it, took 5 minutes since my friend did his before and did it for me. it's tricky but get a flat head and pry out the metal tab and pull. that's it.

Why would these struts go bad when you rarely open a hood nearly as much as car/vans with a rear hatch. I'm shocked so many have had a part that's rarely used fail so much .

you dont have to use them to go bad; time and weather conditions deteriorate the product. makes sense to me.

The seals in them go bad just like any other seal. The gas leaks and they no longer perform like new.

Thank you guys. U learn something new everyday, So id assume a warm/moist climate, the seals wouldn't deteriorate as fast as a car in a co;d dry one no?

I replaced my as well, but now my hood will not open, it seems like one of the struts is pushing too hard on the lock once the hood went down. Any suggestions?

Anybody have a link for these that ship to Canada for less than $30? As it stands I have to pay just as much to ship the item as I do for the item itself.
