Highway Patrol Targets Aggressive Drivers
Over 300 Tickets Issued In Triangle Thursday
WAKE COUNTY, N.C. -- North Carolina Highway Patrol troopers conducted the first of several speed reduction campaigns across the state this week.
Thursday, the Highway Patrol targeted agressive drivers along Interstate 40 in the Triangle.
Troopers focused on drivers who violate motor vehicle laws by speeding, following too closely, or behaving in other reckless ways. According to the Highway Patrol, aggressive drivers account for the majority of traffic collisions on state roads.
With the help of umarked vehicles, motorcycles and helicopters , the Highway Patrol handed out citations for 301 various violations to drivers along I-40 in the Triangle Thursday.
In the Triad, 225 citations were handed out along Interstate 85.
The majority of violations were for speeding.
An aggressive driving crackdown is scheduled for the Charlotte area July 31. In mid-August, Interstate 95 will be targeted across N.C. from the Virginia line to the South Carolina border.
