Green: I guessed at $4,000. First estimate: $3,693 and change.

But it will be closer to $4,000 when Allstate realises the have to ship my wheel a total of 4,000 miles there and back to Cali, and spend an additional $150 to get the wheel recoated.

OUCH! Sorry man. It will get fixed and it won't cost you a dime I hope. I feel your pain since my car is messed up in a similar way but it was my own damn fault. Good luck!

Well, let the fun and games begin...

Known to be good body shop: $3693.

Allstate, who will have to pay for this says $2,650.

Shit. What fun...

Damn, Dave...sorry to hear. I'm still gettin' a porkin' from two insurance companies from when I was rearended while stopped in traffic back in October. It's so damn frustarting, but I suppose it would be worse if my car weren't driveable.

Hope your car comes out lookin' and runnin' like brand spankin' new.

Thanks to all.

I was amazed how I kept my cool and didn't belt her one, or at least berate her.

I am more than a little miffed that Allstate is about $1,000 off on essentially a $4,000 repair: about 25%.

But get this: I had the car looked at by Allstate because I wanted to get pictures of the straight streaks on my wheels to their claim examiner, proving I was stopped, and a stopped car cannot cause an accident (unless it blows up or something.)

Very professional, digicam photos, nice laptop on a portable cart right next to the car.

He types up the quote, and then he takes a 1.44 megabyte floppy and places it in a small tan envelope. Ok, no big deal.

The issue here is that I do not want to have to pay for a rental car,nor my $500 deductable to get the car repaired while Allstate and Progressive fight it out. I'm figuring that in a hour or so, I can call the allstate adjuster for a decision. WRONG!!!!!

A courier will pick up the disk in a day or to, and deliver it to the adjustor! Allstate aparently hasn't figured how to e-mail pictures, or has some stupid policy that prevents it. Scheesh!

Well, good news today. Friday. Because the womans sworn statement was so incoherent and full of blanks, both my insurance company and hers (allstate) say the only record they can agree on is mine. Allstate will pay my claim and pay for a rental car for me, and I do not have to pay a deductible to get the claim started. Therefore, my out of pocket costs are $0.
