not to be a dick, Rob, but...

my car has over 100 1/4 mile runs on it, and i live in the city too. my car isn't completely perfect, but it certainly isn't on it's deathbed.

try to show your truck a little love.

Damn, since no one mentioned it yet..

I saw on the news the other day that the new F-150 got a very, very poor rating on the crash test. Something about the 5-mile/hr bumper test completely destroyed the bumpers.

Did your dealer mention any of it, probably not.. but I think you should go and ask them if they are offering any incentives.

Good luck! I like the way they look, but after seeing what happened on the news, I will be looking into a dodge truck next year.

All of them suck.

I really hate towing anything. Owning a boat should be convenient and fun which towing it to and from the lake; waiting in line at the ramp and storing it is one reason people end up hating the boating experience.

I know many people that have bought boats and a truck to pull it only to sell the boat within a couple of year because they hate dealing with it. Without a doubt, trucks have their place but this is not a great example of a reason for a truck.

I owned a CL-S and an E46 328i both of which could not tow my Caravelle 207BR (shown below) but I enjoyed it nearly every weekend. However, we did keep it in a wet slip at Lake Allatoona which is five minutes from my house. So we could jump in the car and be on the lake in ten minutes. You can't do that when trailering a boat with a truck. Plus, I got to enjoy the superior driving dynamics the cars had to offer especially on the winding roads to the marina.

But let me restate, trucks are great and useful. But if only meant to trailer a boat; keep the boat at the marina and have fun driving a car.

Don't forget towing campers ... another never ending redneck phallicism.

Towing a camper is a problem I solved with this :

It would be nice to get a cheap truck (with the bare minimum of insurance on it) to make home depot runs and haul crap. I can't fit 4x8 sheets in the Bus unless I remove some of the interior cabinates in the rear. I almost bid on a 72 chevy c10 on ebay for $700, but I can't see spend $35K so I can use it 1/2 dozen times a year.

Ah I see. Truck for work is cool. Look forward to hearing about the new ride. Since your getting rid of the CL how about sharing how you did the 13.9 with it? What mods? Any special launching technique? Shift points?

11,500 for the CL :thumbsdn:
Personally the new F-150 looks better than what it is capable of....I own 4wd Tundra now and can do plenty w/ that truck and is more refined...Just test drove the new Titan and by far that is the best truck out there right now...Titan is best for safety..it has side airbags, curtain airbags...most powerful engine in its class...and if you get the LE model w/ Leather, that interior is alot better quality than the interior in my MDX by far....I can go on and on about that Titan.....

My comments weren't directed at you but to anyone who is thinking about buying a truck just to tow something a few times a year (or to be like jimcol711).

If you're a craftsman or are using the truck everyday, then it's a no brainer. You buy the truck to support your livelyhood.

if you buy a boat and only use it a few times a year, youre an idiot. when i had a 1996 18' maxum bowrider (looked similar to Scalberts boat) i used it at least twice a week from april till october, and having a wet-slip or any kind of slip at a marina anywhere on the hudson river in NY was absolute anal rape. i didnt mind at all the launching and retrieving, in fact, after a month or so, you get pretty good at it and can do it in less than a few minutes if you know what you are doing. a boat is a perfect reason to buy a truck. for alot of people, renting or buying a slip at a dock-o-minium or a marina is just out of the question, much like it was for me when i had my boat.

as for my truck. in the 10 months ive owned it, ive personally moved twice, helped my sister move, helped a friend move, used it to haul landscaping material for my parents, let a freind borrow it to tow his boat when his truck broke down, picked up and delivered 2 widescreen tvs, saving the owner 50-100 bucks in delievery charges (and getting a free tank of gas from them for my help) and many other things. granted, this time of year, the truck doesnt get much real usage as far as towing or hauling. next spring im planning a major front yard landscaping project at my home and the truck will be very useful in hauling materials for that, i am also considering the purchase of another boat or other recreational vehicle which would make the truck even more useful while i do dispise the shitty gas mileage, i dont drive more than 200 miles a week so its not costing me that much to put gas in it.

theres no sence in talking shit against truck owners, i dont get all the hostility....

But mine is bigger...

Actually, it was larger at nearly 21 feet but it had a 8.5 foot beam which is wide for a boat of this length. I do miss it though but had to buy my girls somehow.

How much was a slip at a marina in your area?? Mine was $110 per month for a wet slip and $130 for rack storage. Regardless of how easy you can drop in, it can't compare to the convienece of drive up, get in and boat.

Well anal rape for jimcol is like $50 so I'm interested to know how much a slip on the Hudson was too.

Trade-in value varies highly on the condition of the vehicle. His sounds like it was really gross.

anywhere along the hudson was at least 500 a month for a wet slip and 250 for winter rack storage.

trick to getting the 13.9 is this

Mods-AEM intake, Comptech Exhaust, Headers and denso plugs and drag radials(which do nothing for the launch)

Launch- 2000 rpms and ride the clutch so you dont spin

Then slam the fuck outta the gears, if you're not hearing 3rd gear chirp you're not shifting fast enough. Thats about all i did and all the advice i can help you with

I just saw a news report on this very issue. In the exact same test, (insurance institute test) the F150 went from worst with the previous model to best with the new model. It had the best safety performance on that test out of every pickup they have ever tested, so the new F-150 is a significant improvement in that area

Well like cusdaddy said the new F-150 did a complete about face from its performance last year. Did great in the off-set crash test.

However in the 5mph test for the front and rear bumpers, not for safety but to analyze the cost of repair, the new F150 got a "poor" rating.

Guess you can't have anything.

11,500?????

As a person who borders on fanatic in taking care of my vehicles, you must have money to burn.......and seats too. You bought a really nice vehicle with the new Ford; just hope you take better care of it than the CL, or be prepared to lose another 20k in a year!! To all the truck "dissers", you don't know the joy of a pickup until you own one! We love our RAM QuadCab.

Jim, don't feel bad. I have to get rid of my Audi and get a SUV. If the F150 was out I would have gotten it instead. But for now my 03 Pathfinder LE does everything I need at the moment. My new job requires me to haul stuff like copiers, printers, computer stuff all over. I have needed to pull a trailer full of stuff for work as well. I also have a Jetski (Honda AquaTrax F-12X Turbo) which I tried to pull with the Audi, but it had difficulty doing it. The Path, I can't feel it behind me! So for now, the Path does its job for what I need.

Well, I would rather spend 30k on a truck than a 2 door coupe. #1 reason, more versatile. I can do alot more with it and get my moneys worth compared to the CL which has no room for what I need and can't haul alot of people either comfortably.
