I was Looking at the diagrams on page 16-164 ( AT Gear Powertrain Control Unit, PCU)

When you are in 2nd and switch to 1st... there is a switch called 1st gear hold switch that gets enabled (active low) .. the signal is fed to PCU.

1st gear hold in SS:

In SS mode, we decode (from the LED indicator) the 1st gear position and if we are in 1st we can enable a JK Flip-flop that enables the first gear hold signal (hopefully the CPU would still hold the 1st gear in SS), then once you hit the SS up-shift, you reset the JK FF holding the first gear, and you can up-shift to 2nd in SS.

Yeah.. it is reversible and more you can use the spare switch next the VSA to enable disable this feature!

BTW, I'm not sure if someone clarified this, but is it POSSIBLE to control the 1st to 2nd shift via GATE SHIFT (the one on the bottom). I tried it for the first time today and realized when you pull the level all the way to the bottom, you can pull it LEFT (just like puttin in SS mode), where it says "1 to 2". After driving in that mode, I move the selector to the right where "2" is, and it shifted!

Whats going on? I thought we could NOT control that 1 to 2 shift, but it seems like I did!

1 means only 1st and only first gear...
2 means only 2nd and only Second gear...

I need to do a test which enable the 1st switch hold in SS ... if the PCU/ECU does not ignore this signal in SS we are good to go.. Now how to get access to the ECU box?

Not to sound like a jerkoff or anything...but how long we're you living under a rock? What we're trying to do it gain control of 1st gear in sportshift mode. Not in full automatic.

I must have updates on this. I would definately love to do this mod. That is.....if I don't get rid of the car by then.

And this is why I never use SS and almost always use shiftgate.

You are instantly in the gear and not having to ratchet it down as you do with SS.

This is something I was just thinking about yesterday as I pulled away from a light in SS. 1st gear-Bam, 2nd gear like 30 feet later. This wld be great!

This would be especially valuable if you have a slow shifting replacement transmission!

I have never questioned it before, but now that I see someone else speak of a slow shifting replacement tranny I'd just like to say the my replacement definitely shifts slower and not as hard as the original tranny. The original tranny shifted pretty good I always thought, hard enough to get a chirp out of the 1-2 shift. The replacement tranny doesn't shift hard enough for the chirp and seems to takes its sweet time between gears. You would think the slower shifting would be harder on the tranny.

I understand what you guys are talking about, but I was commenting that I noticed that I controlled 1st gear in GATESHIFTing. Thought someone said it was not possible under WOT, I'm pretty sure I did that. I'll try it again tonite if I can.

yes, it's possible, that's how i shift at the track. the 1st gear gate will take you all the way to the rev limiter.

BTW guys, I tried it again tonite, you CAN control every gear shift in GATESHIFTING.

Pull level all the way down and left (D1), and from there you control it all! I kept thinking it would not possible to control 1 to 2 shift, but I guess u can!

not tryin to be a smart ass..but I think they are talkin about, How to control 1 to 2 gear in SS. And alot TL/CL onwer had use gateshift to control 1 to 2 gear, so it is not new things to us.

ok, I understand that, but I had the notion that some people could not control 1st to 2nd at ALL in any shifting. Some guy said in this thread you couldn't gateshift 1 to 2 under WOT, but I believe otherwise.

Now, 1 to 2 in SS is cool if it was possible

You have to try this... there is a signal that is labeled Hold first Gear... (active low)... It instructs the Tranny to stay in first gear... Now, In SS mode, if we can try to ground this signal and hopefully it would work in SS mode. If it does hold the 1st in SS mode then this is the mod:

1) have logic gates (NAND and a simple latch FF):

The input of the NAD:
a) detect SS mode enabled
b) 1st gear selected (decoded from LED indicator)
c) Enable (for the mod) signal from master Switch
d) input from the FF to remeber the state of SS + shifter.

FF latch:
d) SS + signal will switch the FF to off state. (Reset)
e) Once the 1st is reselected the the FF would be switched again to on state...(Set)
