Insurance went up for no reason
Well, got my insurance bill this evening. It went up about $100. I haven't had any tickets, and my credit is very good (I refinanced, so I know what it is). How could something like this happen? Is there something else these people check? Could my insurance agent be screwing me in some way?

Sounds like prices are just drifting up...sounds like a lot in IL though (not that I know). Mileage was a factor for me in MA. Did you change jobs and tell them you drive farther? I am pleased with $900 a year for my 03' CLS...5 years ago when I bought my Prelude, I was paying $1600 closer to Boston. Ouch. I have been stopped 3 times in the Acura (tint with Comptech stickers all 3 times) and been warned. Amazing that in my Civic and PRelude I got bent over.
Hijack thread...
My favorite story was after I had the car for about 3 months...the cop was "undercover"....no light bar but marks along the side... but I saw him pass a car behind me and keep his distance. If he wanted to play, he would have pushed me but I could tell since it was a country road that he was pacing me. So, I stayed the limit. Eventually at a stop light I stepped on the gas, no TOO agressively, but with headers and intake it is hard to miss the sound and he turned on the lights. The cop looked at my reg and lic and these were his exact words..."you have a fast car, you have a new car, you have a nice car...slow down.". After a lot of "yes sir" I drove away. Amazing.
oops...this thread drifted pretty bad...Look around for other insurance...most places will quote you a price no commitment. Some states set limits but others you can save a lot. In MA I got an "invite" to save cash and it ended up being $30. In other states it might be more. Good luck.
Ramble mode off...thank you...good night.

A $100 increase is not very much (semi or annual).... If it went down by $100 would you inquire? I wouldn't even bother calling the agent, forcing him to look at your policy might uncover some things, like do you really drive 5 miles round trip to work everyday or do you really only have 5,000 miles on the odometer?

disclaimer: I am also an insurance agant in FL.
All insurance companies go through this every once in a while. Probably what has happened is that they asked the state if they could increase rates accross the board due to claims experience in the state as a whole or in your area.
If you have not had any claims or violations, your rates can still be increased because of where you live (city or state). Insurance is a shared risk--everyone pays in and claims are paid out as they come in....if there are more claims that there are premiums paid in, there will be an increase in premiums.
Fair--nope. But that is how things work---unfortunately.
I have this discussion about 10 times a day with customers.
Any questions, lemme know and I will see if I can come up with a better explaination for you.

when I was checking on what the premium would be to go from my M3 to a S60R, I was informed that the rates would be going up sometime around the 1 October timeframe. Will find out in a few weeks as my policy renews in just under a month from now.

Thank you DeansblackCLS
I will call on Monday. But I am irritated when I consider:
Ceductible is $1k each.
Coverage is 50/100, lowest I would feel okay about.
No claims.
No tickets.
Credit is pretty dang good. I did a re-fi, so I know.
And it's not as if this car is appreciating.
I drive a total of 12 miles round trip per weekday. Mapquest actually under reports the miles. (But I do make holiday jaunts to Indiana about 4 to 5 times a year. It's a 300 mile drive round trip.)
Cost went up $100 for six months coverage.
I can't think of a reason for the change, outside of the market adjustment already mentioned.
Well, I'll have to call to get clarification. I also need to shop for other insurance, too.
Thanks again for the help.

Talked to my agent -- Apparently, it was due to a rash of hail storm claims in the summer. I have to admit that I am extremely sceptical about that.

You are lucky. There are some people on here paying $8,000 - $12,000 a year for insurance. Next year is a leap year so there's an extra day so already that's a 1% increase.

Not to hijack but......
Can a parking ticket (a.k.a. Non Moving Violation) cause my insurance to go up?

Once again, ask your agent and (hopefully) they'll know the real answer to this one. Don't tell them your name/policy number if your worried that this will implicate you somehow.
Now, if you have a gazillion unpaid non-moving tickets and there's a warrant out for you, I'm not sure, but your insurance may care (then again they may not, I'm not sure how they can justify a parking ticket changes assigned risk).

You're absolutely Right about the hail storm. It was pretty extensive, I guess. -- What I do think is far fetched is how much the amount went up. $100 seems like a lot. Oh well. Another frustration in life. My home computer is down, too, so it's difficult to get other work done, too.

WHAT!!! who the hell is paying that much and for how many cars (10-20?).
F- that, no way is a car worth 1000 a month just to drive it (not including paying for the freaking car).
