They could at lease take you to dinner and kiss you before the screw ya like that. $14000 a year is absolute robbery. I am 21/m in NJ..one of the highest insurance states in the land i am paying a little under $1900 per year, with a clean record.
$14000 per year, they better give you a hot girl that drives around in your car everywhere you go and offers endless oral favors to ya....then it may be a decent deal. Until that day comes..find yourself a new insurance agent or move.

Just out of curiousity a co-working and myself filled out an online estimate with geico using the CL-S, and we put in the info for brooklyn. (made up an address of 10 smiths LN) and filled in the info for medium insurance using an age of 24 with no accidents fo tickets and got back an online quote of roughly $11,000 a year...that's way too much money for insurance.

Ok. Brooklyn is going to be a problem to insure a car whether your record is clean or not. Out of those 14000 around 10K is probably for comprehensive and collisioin the rest is liability (estimates only). Brooklyn has one of the highest accident rates around. It also has the highest insurance fraud rates in the country. This is what drives up the insurance prices. BTW they just went up 15% (I think) on March 1, 2001. So if you want to live in brooklyn (and I don't see why anyone would I am moving soon ) be prepared to pay the price.

and those quotes were for the cl, not even the cl s, wich will probalby be a couple thousand more.

Actually, the CL and CL-S have the same exact insurance rates. Actually, they are in the same class. The insurance company goes by VIN number, and the CL and CL-S have the same exact engine, so they are insured the same. All of the work on the CL-S that gives it extra HP is internal and doesn't change the VIN #......

i dont know maybe your right, but when i got a quote on the internet from kemper direct, they ask what model, and they wanted about 7500 for the cl, and a little over 9000 for the cl-s. maybe a real person's quote would be diff. I would think it would only be natural for a car with more horsepower and more valuable would cost more with insurance.

1) The VIN #s for the CL and CLS differ by 1 or 2 letters but they are definately different. In addition to that I think that CL and CLS are in different comprehensive coverage classes.

So eighteight the only thing I can actually recommend for you is get the insurance under somebody else's name, your parent's name or something, or get an address out of state or even in upstate NY. However if you get it in upstate or out of state, you better pray that you don't have an accident in brooklyn (which is a pretty hard thing to do ) because with the regulations that are in effect right now you are going to get fucked twice, first be your friendly local PD with questions like where were you going, why, and stuff like that, and then the insurance company with questions like why the fuck were you there to begin with. SO be careful and good luck

I think im just gonna have to put up with it for one year. I got another quote from geico, this time as a 25 year old with 1 year insurance (in other words one year from now for me) and it went from 14,000 to about 6,000, wich isnt bad. So i guess i'll just go with kemper or something around 8 or 9,000 for the first year then it should drop significantly

You're probably right. It would make sense they they differ slightly, but the part of the VIN # for the engine is the same. Both cars use the same exact 3.2 liter V6 model. Sure, the CL-S has a dual stage intake and free flowing exhaust, but I don't believe that's reflected in the VIN number. In addition, I read on here that someone was debating between the CL and CL-S, but when they got an insurance quote, they were the same price and both were just listed as a CL. I checked with my insurance since I'm looking to upgrade and the results were the same. It probably varies by insurance company.....
