Insurance Question

Suppose I don't agrtee with what my insurance company tells me... What can I do?
Look at the link in my sig. SOme eomanopened her door into traffic and I hit it. The cop says its the person opening the door into traffic's fault but since there was a car in the opposite direction its a grey area... the bottom line is, I would have made it had she not opened up...
My father says chances are insurance companies lazy as they are will just pay each one off. That's total BS. My rate will go up because of an accident that was not my fault. What can I do if this is what they choose to do? Am I powerless?

You can always sue the lady yourself, but if you win the money may go to your insurance company if they already paid you (depends on state law. You can contact the other insurance company directly and ask them if they are going to pay up since their insured was at fault. Just tell them you want to settle and ask them if that they will pay to get your car fixed. Very Important, First call your own insurance company and tell them you're going to do it as it may affect them and ask them at the same time what the status of the claim is. Have you even asked your own insurance company what they are going to do. I'm sure they rather have the other company pay if liability is as clear as you described.

In my experience, the insurance industry has been "you win a few, you lose a few."

Hmm... that's what my dad says. he says they won't puut too much time into this. They have multi million dollar suits all over the place, the faster they get this done, the better int heir eyes.
What about the PA insurance comission? The insurance agent is a good friend of my dad's so I'll give him a call sometime tonight.

Maybe you can threaten to switch to another company if they don’t stick up for you.

I don’t know if this would work or not because maybe they would be happy to get rid of you.

I hear this works better if you have a good history with your current company.
I’ve been with my company (Allstate) for 17-years so there is a little more history to show there.

Been with GEICO since 1985. They have first accident forgiveness, good driver program, no penalty for speed unless 15+ mph over, and most importantly low rates.

They use points to determine when and how much your premium increases and they now will NOT automatically cancel you if they learn you have a radar detector.

They do fund and bolster police department's traffic control (radar) budgets and they do pass out laser and radar guns to LEO all over the country. At least they use to. But that's a good thing because that will save your life in the long run.

Don't know what other insurance companies do (never had insurance elsewhere) but you may want to shop around as suggested by others.
