Installing Sway Bars?

Has anyone of you install the sway bars on your CLS yourself? If so how long did it take and is it a pain in the ***? Is there allot of work involve? Would you need to realign the front end? Thanks for any feedback or tips.

Thanks for your response tuleman. Is the install pretty straight forward? Would I be disconnecting any of the front end parts to get it bolted on? I haven't climbed under to check it out yet.

Gary, you should come to our next meet and/or get in touch with Norcal CL-S (Justin). He and his brother installed the sways on his CL-S together.

If it's anything like my Subaru, you can do it in well under 30 minutes and it's just 4 bolts.

I'm from the north side of town. Town & Country, Carmichael area. Looking forward to the meet. I posted a question on the forum on whether some of the guys replace the front, back, or both sways. How about you?

i looked at instructinos on how to do it and it doesn't seem too hard, except that i think you have to raise the car up and unload the suspension.

otherwise it's just a couple bolts to remove the stock and same thing to install the new one.

In HELMS manual, self-lockings nuts are to be replaced by new ones.

Does comptech's come with such nuts?

The Helm manual also suggests new self-locking nuts when changing springs. If the sways are like springs, they don't come with new nuts. I just reused the old ones and applied some Loctite Threadlocker to hold them in place as an extra precaution.

I’m curious if Acura dealerships use new ones or if they just re-use the old ones when installing sways and springs... I looked at the self-locking nuts after removal and they seemed to be in perfectly fine shape for re-use.

Hey THANKS tinman and Night Hawk for your imput. Looking at your sigs it doesn't appear that either one of you have sways. Night hawk you mention that it might involve dropping the suspension. You don't mean the whole front end do you? For those of you that have actually installed sways yourself need your imput. Thanks Allot!!

Lift the car is all that is needed.

Lift up the front, replace. repeat for the rear.

Hey Night Hawk
How do you like your trunk mat. Does it cover the whole trunk and how is the quality. Dealer here has it for $79.00. Think that's a good buy?

Very nice liner, It does cover the whole trunk floor. You lose the 2 hooks, for the net, on the trunk floor. Easy to clean.

I got mine from the dealer. I do not know if $80 is a best deal ever . I checked autocarparts.com and it is $90.00. I guess it's fair price.

I like mine.

that's what i meant by unloading the suspension, taking the load off of it by raising the car.

Do it yourself. I did mine myself and took about 1-1.5hrs. Also went out and bought a torque wrench to torque the bolts back on at the specs. For specs just do a search...

Welcome GRF, Sways install! Hmmm! Definitely do front and back, and just have a good pair of jack stands. The whole process takes about an hour. I'd say check out comptech's site and download the sway bar instructions, it'll tell you everything you need to know..

See you @ mini meet 5 or 4.5?
