Insane 7500 miles service quote...

OK, so I took my Dad out to Rizza Acura in Orland Park (NOT where I bought my car) to look at the MDX. He LIKED it btw... Might be getting one...

Anyhoo... I'm quickly appraoching 7500 miles, so I wanted to get an oil change while I was there. So I ran out to service to see if they could do it. Appointment only it turns out.... BUT before I found this out...

I told them I was at 7500 miles, and need an oil change.

"You need more than that", the service dood said. "Besides the oil change, you need a tranny flush."

EH???? I interupted him and asked him if he was serious. He said yes...

I thought the 7500 mile service was an oil change and a tire rotation???

Anyhoo... So I asked how much for the 7500 mile service.

$259.00!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can you say screw job???? Oh and if I wanted a coolant flush, it'd be more he said.

why would you want to do a tranny flush and a coolant flush so fast? (im talking about the service advisor) a tranny flush is recommended 15,000 miles and the coolant flush is not needed until 45,000 miles...

I think I paid around $70 for my 7500 mile service. I'm at 30k now and they wanted $450 for the 30k service. I told them hell no.

Do they have a VIP strip room in the waiting lounge too?
Maybe thats part of the fee

7500 miles only needs oil change and tire rotation btw and this is for a "severe" schedule.

You should have told them to just go ahead and do the tranny and coolant flush, both under warranty of course. Saying they are necessary at 7500 miles amazes me.

That's the worst misstatement of a material fact by any dealer in the history of cars. I would go back with my manual and ask him to explain the discrepency. In actuality, you don't need any transmission service in non-severe condtions for like 60,000 miles (according to Acura's own service schedule) although no one waits that long. I would love to hear his response!!!!!

by the way you should throw the manual book at the service guy and tell him to find where it says "transmission flush @ 7500 miles"

they are trying to rip you off

Your dealer sucks! My dealer is cool, service advisor knows me well as a customer and she does not try to sell me anything I don't need. I asked if I need 15K mile service ( $300 or something). She was like "it's up to you, but all I would really recommend is a tranny fluid change/rotate tire/oil change).
I was kinda surprised, usually they push you for this... but instead she told me that its not really needed, only if I want.

I think she knows that I am greedy and won't spend any extra $$ on sh*t I don't need. So they only advise me important things.

Why would anyone pay more then $20 for a 7500 mile "service" ?? It's just an oil change. Rotate the tires yourself.

no need to be hard on the guy. maybe he isn't a wrench head.

what about just changing the oil yourself. it's easier than pie in my opinion, takes maybe 10 minutes.

change the oil and flush the tranny yourself. both are easy.

if you have a floorjack (can get decent one for $40) then oil. tranny, rotating tires you can do in 30 min.

Sounds right to me. Oil change for my 996TT at the dealer cost about the same. But w/o tranny flush. The dealer uses 11qts Mobil 1 syn. Even if I change the oil & filters myself, it'll cost me around $80. I also got a boxster for loaner and free gas.

I never do oil change on my CL at the dealer. But I did took my CL to the dealer to check up the a/c, and I got a 00 Integra for loaner. Everything is free.

I took my CL for oil change at local shop for $15.
