Ingalls engine dampner test vehicle?
I was just wondering if there was any CL fanatic in Colorado willing to use his or her car as a test vehicle. I was inquiring about their engine dampner for reducing wheel hop. They emailed me back saying there is no application for our car, but they are always looking for new R&D vehicles for more applications. On their site they say they will only need the vehicle for 3 sessions and your compensation is a free finished product.

02av6 had one made to fit on his heavily modded accord. It wasn't ingalls, but an off brand. I was just hoping for a actual product for everyone. I don't know if he had any actual wheel hop problems before the dampner. He said that he does notice the car plants the power better. He also has poly filled engine mounts too. I just know any time I go to the track whether I let out alot of air psi or not, or launch at idle or slight break torque. I always get wheel hop and it's killing my 60'.

Ok, I sent them an email with all of the info they ask for anyway. We'll see what they say.
Hey, if it will help the CL community put power to the ground, I'll take one for the team!

If you post the e-mail address here, I and am sure others as well, will be inclined to send an e-mail expressing interest in this item. My biggest gripe about my '03 6MT CLs is the muther FXXXXXG wheel hop. Anytime I try to have a little to much fun in first gear I have crazy wheel hop. If I could buy a part that would stop this at a reasonable price I would be all over it as I can imagine everyone who has a cl and is a motorhead would buy this as a first or second mod. lets get it done. can you imagine doing a burnout or launch with no wheel hop and the fresh smell of burnt rubber.
if i lived in colorado I would donate my car in a second. I would want to watch though.
How hard is it to change a motor mount, i have no idea?
I think it could be done so that it doesnt transmit much vibration. many other cars have a smooth ride and no wheel hop. I dont really know what im talking about though. anyone please chime in.
my 2 cents,
jim

I guess everyone just needs to keep letting them know there is an interested group of people here.

Time for sleep, an engine damper is like a shock for your engine. When you launch your car the torque loads up on the engine mounts and rocks the motor back. The second you lose traction for a second this torque unloads causing the motor to unload the torque thus rocking back the other way. As soon as the tires get traction again the motor slams back the other way. Many people destroy motor mounts this way. The tires re jumping off the ground while all this is happening. This cycle happens maybe three to five times a second when I really pealing out. I hate to launch because of it

for you guys who still dont understand what it does, I got this from the ingalls site, the damper can be bought from them for 159 shipped i think. there is a similar item that looks identical on ebay for $45 just search "Universal Engine Torque Damper". All that we would need to do is fabricat the mount bracket or two:
Ingalls engine damper is a self-contained elastomeric shock that mounts on brackets between the engine and the chassis. It reduces extreme engine movement and dampens the motion, providing many benefits. The “Stiffy” was originally intended for the sport compact market, but can be used for some Hot Rod* applications if it is applied correctly.
Benefits:
*Greatly improved off-the-line acceleration
*Ingalls engine damper will provide reduced wheel hop
*Ingalls engine damper will provide improved vehicle stability
*Reduced shock loads on driveline components
*Ingalls engine damper will provide Smoother shifting
*Ingalls engine damper reduced wear on exhaust system joints
*Less vibration transmission to the driver compared to polyurethane motor mounts.
*Less shock load, compared to torque straps and chains.
*Drifting – helps reduce shock loads when wheels gain traction.
*Ingalls engine damper reduces motor movement – decreases the chance of motor parts rubbing against the hood and frame.
I have also sent a letter to the r&d at weapon-R. they make a damper as well.

I sent an e-mail to techsupport@nrginnovations.com they are a company that makes the same procuct. they are on the west coast. who wants to put up a 6MT car? I told him we could probably get a group buy together for this. this is what he wrote.
Jim,
Thank you for your great feedback. I will definitely look into it. If
you are willing and are in the west coat, we can use a project test fit
car for this. if not, i will try to prottype it myself and update you.
perhaps you can lead the group buy yourself and we can give you a
surplus deal on your purchase.
thank you
Roth
someone on the west coast better contact this guy. it sounds like he is ready to do business.

This has already been done by a shop called Garage Kwai. They made one for 02av6. He purchased an off brand dampner on ebay(probably the one you found) and they made him a bracket for $100. They mounted it from the shock tower to the block. I go to this shop for my performance needs also. The reason for me even starting this thread is that I like how ingalls gos to the engine mount instead of on the block. I'm probably just paranoid, but i just think this is safer. If ingalls does not want to pursue our application then I will be going to Garage Kwai to have them make me one.

at this point I have contacted Weapon-R, Ingalls and, NRG Innovations. all of these companies have damper kits using the same part 02av6 used, ingalls uses, and weapon-r uses. NRG innovations is on the west coast and seems to be ready to do something right away. I have not heard form weapon-r as of yet. I have spoken with Roth at NRG Innovations and he said he would start working on this right away, today he said. However, someone one the west coast near City of Industry, California will probably need to let them look at your car for a bit. will someone with a 6 speed or even an auto please donate your car. they are going to try to put a kit together that we would have first dibs on in a group buy. the address for NRG is;
