inacurate tachometer problem

hey guys, this is a strange one! reeeally strange. i posted a while back that my rpm's were hitting a rev limit at 5600 rpm and never really could find a good answer to what was going on. so when i had the acura dealership look at it, they hooked it up to their diagnostics computer and found this gem out. the car revs to 6900 and bounces there but the damn tach needle is at the 5600 at this point. so all this time i thought it was something bigger... its the guage thats off!

the mechanic says that they can fix it but it would be a couple hundred (he's letting me know a sold estimate later). tell me theres a better way to fix this! has anyone else had this happen?

Ya, the rpms are super important since you have the 6 speed. Um, you can buy a whole new cluster from a junkyard perhaps. Honestly, I have no idea where to start, but I know changing the cluster is fairly simple since I have done mine once in the past.

Buy just the Tach assembly and swap it out with yours. Its around 35 bucks, and you could do it pretty easily. That or try to pick up a used one (which are hard to find and usually 150-200 bucks

78125-S3M-A21 is the 6-speed tach. The auto is 78125-S3M-A14.

acuraoemparts.com may be cheaper, though.

wicked. what are the chances that the problem is with the cable? actually, come to think of it, im not 100% sure how the tach links up to the engine.

Its electrical that goes thru the ecu. Either the tach itself has the issue or the circuit board.

On the first page where I had to select the vehicle, I selected a 2003 CL Type-S Manual. That's how it brought that up. It doesn't show the Automatic, since I didn't selecte automatic.

Also, for the other site cost more I believe, I checked both earlier...
