I'm new at this!

I'll get right to the point... I have to beat my friends 98 mustang cobra by December 4. All I know is he claims more than 300+hp. Is it possible or should I just give him $250 now!

I have a stock 03 CL-S 6spd Manual and I have about 7-$8,000 spending budget after i pay off my car what do you recommend?

comptech headers, & supercharger will give about 300 horses at the wheels.

98 Cobra

Yer talking 305 ponies out of it stock (crank).

It's a DOHC 32v V8 - not the Pushrod 302 Ford has run into the ground. (not dissin the 302 - still a badass motor)

From 96-98 they used the DOHC motor in the Cobra. It's got a decent gearbox to match.

They do put down decent torque - and weight in the 3500lb range.

If you want to beat it convincingly- you need to go turbo.

A Comptech Charger / headers / exhaust combo would probably give you enough to take him in the 1/4 mile, but I think it would be close.

I wouldn't waste my time or money. Just be happy you drive a nicer car. One that doesn't shake down the road & make loud noises & attract attention, & be greatfull you can carry on a conversation inside your CLS without having to shout. Be comforted that your car has heated seats, & many other items the Cobra doesn't have. The cobra is a different class of car. It's purpose is to be fast. The CLS is not.
Even if you got the power the car would have tons of problems getting that power to the ground.

spend 1200 on a nitrous kit with bottle warmer, pressure gauges and shit. Tune it for 300. Put 6500 away for a rainy day/newcar/porn money. Dont spend all your money trying to beat a car that has crazy torque and HP, its not worth it. If you cant beat him with 100 shot then you will be spending about 7 grand on a custom turbo. If you really want to beat him, sell the CL take the 7 grand and put it all toward a new vette or new cobra.

Re-Read the First Post

"I have to beat my friends"....

Yes - no disputing between Honda quality over a domestic. And I agree with you fuzzy, why screw up a classy automobile. I personally have an AEM-V2 intake and OBX headers on my 01 CL, but no noisy exhaust. I like the moderate power gains, and still having the daily drivability.

There are others on here tho that have some stupid-fast CLs. Depends on what you want - with performance you sacrifice drivability and comfort - almost every time.

He wanted to know about faster - so I told him about faster.

Yea, I agree..... Take the 8-Grand and go buy an old 90’s Mustang GT that’s been built up.
Kick his ASS with that and then you’ll still have a nice CL-S.

Yeah, that is pretty The CL is not meant to run with Cobra's. Sounds like money is not much of an object for you; pay your friend the 250, buy a real sports car, not a luxury sports sedan. There are many bolt ons for mustangs that will increase HP 50, 100+ Hp for only a couple grand, so 300+ may be closer to 350+, good luck trying to even connect with the front wheel drive IF you can get that much HP out of the CL, there's only 1(or is it 2) members here w/ custom turbos and only another handful w/ that much HP to the wheels, and even some of those guys will tell you some of that power is useless from stop w/ the FWD.

Almost, but not always.

You can retain the stock sound, idle quality, etc. and nearly double the power output on this car. That says quite a bit about the car to begin with. The real difference is that the right pedal cannot be used as an on/off switch.

I suspect that this is another one of those posts which will never result in anything occurring, just a bunch of lip service.

However, if I am wrong then the following is already mentioned advice, buy a different car.

Failing that, and the plan is to keep the CL and you just want to beat this Cobra in a drag race (done at the track I hope), add 125 HP shot of nitrous. That should be more than enough to get you out in front of a '98 Cobra.

If more constant power is desired and considering your location, drop your car off with allmotor_2000 with a check for $7500 and pick it up a month later with a wonderful new turbo system. Be sure to get Comptech headers ahead of time which will run you another $1000 as they are required for the turbo system.

All very good advice my friends! I would aggree with all of them. However, here is another option not mentioned. If and when your car is paid for, trade up for '05 G35C (295hp), w/ your $8G's invest in GREDDY Twin-turbo if applicable. Now you get all the luxury plus serious whoop ass potential. In fact........that's what I may do.

V8 vs V8 - wheres the fun in that.?....

Pick up an 88 Civic Hatch for $400 or $500
Swap an LS Motor and tranny into it - boost it, bottle it, and blow the doors of the stang.

Should be able to build the whole car for under $6500

Hello 11 second car.....bye bye mustang.
