OK, as much as I like my CL-S, the tranny issue is getting very annoying and I'm sick of having to deal with this POS tranny and am considering getting another car, but can't think of anything else I'd really rather be in that is comparably priced and equipped to the CL-S. So I'm looking for opinions on what cars you people think you'd be in if there was no CL that can be had for about $30K (not including a navi). I'm excluding the TL since it's the most obvious answer and shares our crappy tranny.
It can be any type of car...coupe, sedan, 2 seater convertible, SUV, etc.....as long as it has an auto tranny. I don't want to deal with a manual in about an hour of traffic each way to and from work.
Yes, I'd like a 330Ci, but comparably equipped, you're looking at the $40K+ range. And just about every other decent car gets into the upper $30s fully loaded (G35C, 350Z, Audis, etc).
The Mazda 6 seems like a good option, but I've been spoiled with HIDs, memory seats, and all that other good stuff....but that twin turbo option supposedly coming out sounds sweet.
The only reasonable option I can think of is the new Accord, but it somewhat feels like a downgrade so any other ideas?

I was looking at the RSX typeS before I started thinking about the CLS. I looked at a couple of 2002 Accord V6 leftovers too. Quickly thought about the Toyota GTS, but finally decided that I wanted something from the Honda/Acura family. (after driving my Ford for 8 plus years, I decided to go import instead of domestic).
The 350Z looks like a decent bargain at the price. If I didn't like having a rear seat a decent trunk, I would have went that way.
BMW 3 series are nice, but the 330 is pricey.
Even though I don't like the looks of the interior, the G35 coupe looks like a winner.
BTW, I drive about 45mins in traffic (oneway) and the 6spd isn't that much of a hassle once you get used to it. I don't think I'd ever buy an automatic sportscar, but that's just me.
Toyota Solaris ?? It's still based on the old camry platform, but that's another option.
I have to say that if there wasn't a CLS 6spd, I'd probably be driving a Honda Accord now.

Nissan Maxima should be at the top of your list.
Pontiac Grand Prix GTP should be next.
Mitsubishi Diamante isn't a bad choice for commuting.
MB C230 is a small option if you are a midget.
Audi A4 1.8 T is another option.

Well a G35 coupe is a little over $37K with all the goodies, so it seems a bit over priced for such a crappy interior. I haven't checked it out in person, but I did test drive the sedan a while back and wasn't impressed at all so I'm assuming it'll be the same thing with the coupe. But if I had to choose between a G35C and a 350Z, I'd definitely go with a G35.
I did consider an IS300 before, but just didn't like it too much for some reason, maybe I'll have to go check it out again.
I wouldn't get a Maxima because I simply think it looks like ass, but that's just my opinion. I can't stand the rear end, I'd prefer an IS300 with some covers for the Alteza lights. Otherwise, I guess the Maxima would be a logical choice.
As far as the used cars go, I'd really prefer a new car right now since I hope to go back to school and probably stop working for about a year so I need something under warranty.
My point really is that there's nothing out there that really gives you the same bang for the buck as the CL/TL models do...even now, 2 years after I bought my car.

M3, but that might be a little pricey
350z is a really cool fast car
i really wanted an AUDI A4 1.8T before i bought my CL but I didn't have enough money. actually, i was surprised that i found my CL for such a good price.

Audi + chip = voided warranty (usually), plus I want an auto and people even have more problems with chips on autos.
I actually did consider a Lightning, but don't really like the idea of a standard cab pickup. I'd rather get a Harley Davidson edition F150 if I were to go that route.
From the looks of things, I guess I'll be keeping the CL-S for now.
