I will send someone money if they can figure my problem

This has been a bitch of a problem....

Let me start by saying, Bridgestone/Firestone service stores can suck my left nut...

My girl and I both have CL-s and both our cars have been running great. All of a sudden her car has felt "floaty" at speeds of 65mph and up. I opened a thread about this before, but everyone agreed it was Balancing, blah blah blah..

Well to be sure it wasnt her suspension, I took the tires off my car and put it on hers. Well to say, her car ran perfect with my rims/tire combo. I take her tires and put them on my car, and now my car feels unsafe over 70mph, only shaking a little bit but mostly an unsafe floating feeling in the steering wheel.

Well I take it to the Supposedly god of all balancers, the Roadforce 9700. The guy says the rims are perfect and the roadforce was out a little bit, so they remount the tire and rebalance. But guess what, I still have a problem.

WHAT CAN IT BE< I WILL SEND A CASH REWARD TO WHOEVER CAN SOLVE THIS

Looks like the tires to me...I know that same feeling. I just got my wheel alignment done after I got the drop done and I don't get that feeling anymore.

EDIT: Try out the suspension one more time...something could be loose.

i had the same felling, it was the tires. my falken 512s just didnt feel good at high speeds, the back end slid out a little at 80+ when i was on the highway. they just had no side wall, and rolled on every turn and felt very unstable.... but new tires and problem gone.

wheres my money

as mentioned above, your problem probably lies in the tires. What is the speed rating of the tires in question? And what exact type of tire are they?

Thanks for the fast responses, and Greenmonster thanks for adding the link..

They are good tires, Bridgestone Potenzas G009 215 50 17, H-Rated (I know thats only 130mph)

Her car felt completely steady for the first 3 months with the new tires and then one trip home from Philly to Pittsburgh, it all of a sudden felt all wavey and just kind of out of control.

I hate cars, I know it is almost impossible for you guys to diagnose the problem over the internet, but I am stumped.

Can you break a belt in a tire and the a tire guy wouldnt even be able to tell???

Also is it possible that my rim is bent and no one can tell??

It could be a reconditioned tire. It may be some reject tire retreaded and sold as new. I remember bridgestone having a recall years ago on SUV tire blowout at certain speeds.

+1 for bad tire(s)

It's entirely possible that you have a tire that has gone bad internally causing it to weaken. I could see how the Roadforce wouldn't see this.

Replace tires.

Replace the tires! I know a great tire guy. Bridgestone sucks IMO.

Yeah, by moving your tires over to her car, you've narrowed it down to the tires/rims...

Either the air is low in the tires (you would think the balancing guys would see this), or there is something wrong with the tires/rims...

Maybe she didn't push the car for the first 3 months with the new tires, and the phillie-pitts trip was the first time you noticed the tires where crappy ??

The 215-50-17's are rated @ 91 (1356lbs) while the OEM load rating recommendation is a 93V (1433 lbs) so you're going to get a little more "wiggle" in the tire...

edit: My car is a little floaty lately, but I just think it's because the struts have 52K miles on 'em and I'm running on bald tires

"The older you get, the lazier you get." Quote from my step-dad when he finally changed the bald ass tires on his 89 F-150 after having them on for 9 years...

I just want to make it till Oct... I need to get the CL inspected then, so I'll have to get tires... The rears are down to the warning marks, but the front must have at least 1/32 left

Since you like living on the edge, why don't you remove the spare tire as well?

Go ahead and replace 'em. Then the next time it rains, you won't have to drive like a granny.

They aren't really that bad... Hydroplaning is a good way to get the heart rate up

I've still got like 3-4/32's up front, but I'll be making an appointment to get 4 new yoko's installed soon...

If anyone hasn't said it yet, it's the tires.

How can I prove it to Bridgestone, I took it to the service center yesterday and let me tell you, the store manager almost got slapped by me. Here is what he said that was typical mechanic-consumer relationship.

Store manager: "I have been doing this for 25 years, I drove your car to 60mph and couldnt feel it, so I told the guy to start balancing them."

Me: "I told you, I just got them done on a Hunter Roadforce 2 weeks ago, no offence against you machine, but your balancer is not going to be any better"

Store manager: "I have heard that so many times from customers who dont know what they are talking about, I guarantee its the tires, its only $10.99 per tire."

Me: "Tell him to not balance them, I have already had these tires balanced 3 different times and they are only 4 months old."

Store manager: "Your being ignorant because you think you know a little bit about cars"

Me: "I told you, its the tires, I know how my car is suppose to drive when I have good tires on it, and it does not drive like that with these crappy tires on it.:

Store Manager: "Its not the tires, I told you I checked them."

Me: "how did you check them"

Store Manager: "I looked at them"

Me: (Laughing) I knew this would annoy him...

Store Manager: "Your really a fool if you don't think its the balancing"

Me: "Explitive, Explitive, Explitive"

Store Manager: "Explitive, Explitive"

Me: "I am sick of automotive people taking advantage of the consumer, I am done talking to you"

I picked up my keys and left.

How can I prove its the tires... They are freakin 4 months old, my gf isnt going to pay another $600 for tires.

I got my front tires changed today and they tore off most of the clearcoat on the edge of the rim. I drove on them till they looked like racing slicks. smooth as a babies ass. retarded, I know. I got 225/45 yokohama ES100's. And id say you are having problems with your tires. Is it to late to get any money?
