I thought I would get my ass handed to me...
OK, this happened a few days ago, and I had been contemplating whether or not I should post it on the forums, since everyone is going to call bullshit. But if any of you guys know me, you know I'm not the type to bullshit about this sort of thing.
So, without further ado, here we go.
I had just dropped my mom off to meet up with my dad so they can go out to dinner with their friends. I was coming toward Telegraph on Maple road; Telegraph is a major road, 4 or 5 lanes each way, depending on the area.
Well, I was waiting to make a right turn on to Telegraph, when an E46 M3 pulled up to my right in the inside left-turn lane. I was in the outside left-turn lane. I was just checking it out, since it's a sweet car and all. Then the light turned green, and we started moving. As we were moving on to Telegraph, he abruptly cut me off and got in front of me in the U-turn lane. Eh, whatever. That's no big deal, but at least he could've turned the turning signal on.
Then as he was completing the U-turn, I saw him glance at me through his rear-view mirror, then I heard the exhaust screaming. He floored his car. "Oh, no, you don't," I thought to myself, as I straighted out the car and proceeded to mash the gas pedal. He got a really good head start, of course, so that wasn't really a race. At the next light, we both caught red, first ones in line. I took off slowly, since I wasn't sure if he was going to race or not. Then I heard him launch the car. Mash the gas pedal, give pursuit. He shut it down at about 40-45 mph, and started cruising. I got next to him, popped it in second and waited. He glanced over real quick, and he was off. I was ready and took off with him. Holy shit, I kept up with him all the way up to about 80-90. I saw him looking at me again, like "what the...?"
That's when he slowed way down, and never caught up to me again. Some young kid. I was going to let him catch up, then give him a thumbs-up, but he had to be a sore loser (well, not exactly a loser, but definitely poor sportsmanship).
OK, so I honestly don't know what happened. I'm pretty sure it was an SMG since I didn't hear any evident shifts. Nonetheless, it was an awesome race and I was very pleased and surprised that my car kept up with an M3 coupe.
You guys can raise the BS flag if you want, but I'm not making this up and I have no reason to. I know it sounds pretty hard to believe, but it happened.

Did the V-AFC do anything (noticeable) for your power? Also, how's your experience with the OBX headers?
In any case, I completely believe you brother... I've been in a few M3s and they don't feel like they can "crush" a stock CL/TL (type S). With a few mods and given a roll, it doesn't surprise me that we can keep up with the E46 M3. He could also be one of those smart guys that puts a system and heavy ass rims on his M3... thus slowing his ass down.

Umm, now this is going to make the whole thing sound weirder -- I have a pretty heavy system in my trunk, but no aftermarket wheels or tires. The M3 had stock wheels (not sure of the tires), and it didn't look like it had a system since the rear end wasn't sagging or anything. Oh, and my V-AFC II isn't even hooked up yet -- I'm waiting on the word on the harness from scalbert.
As for the OBX, it's pretty good. Although the resonance bothers me sometimes, it's not that big of a deal. No cracks or any other problems yet. And it helped me knock off a half a second in the quarter-mile at the dragstrip.

still a Masshole
It was probably a manual and the guy just sucked. Its not at all impossible but I have a TLS with Headers and Icebox and have been walked hard by an M3 before. Not exactly a fair race (never were side to side but still. I also had a passenger but no system.
Anything is possible in the street so props to you
and a
to the M3 driver

Close, Darrin. 14.5@98. It was a crappy day -- drizzling, high humidity, and low 70's, I think. I'm on stock tires, too. ![Frown](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/frown.gif)
Hey, Darrin. Sweet race yesterday. You straight up RAPED me on the launch. I need tires, dammit. But it's cool; I got a good view of your shiny new Comptech mufflers.
Them are nice.

E46 M3 is much faster than that... it can run up to 13.1, 13.2 quarter... It should MURDER TL-s, modded or not. Maybe a blown TL-s can kind of hang. The E46 is fast enough that if I'm caught sleeping, it will run by my car too ('03 cobra)
(I'm posting the link below for reference, but I've seen an E46 run 13.2 at the track @ 108. Don't mess around with it if you don't got the juice. =)

And I don't know if a stock M3 can trap at 108 mph. Obviously the one you saw at the track was modded. I go to the track often, too, and I have yet to seen a stock M3 trap at anywhere near 108.
LS1 doesn't even trap that high. And they've got similar weight and way more power. Gearing makes a difference, of course, but I just don't know about trapping at 108.
Besides, I do know that they are fast. That's why I started off saying what I said in the original post. It was a fluke and I'm not sure what happened. I'm not here to argue that my TL-S can beat M3's all day.

I think the 6MT traps 105ish while the SMG is a hair slower. I've beaten 2 E46 6MT from a dig & roll when I was stock by 1+ car length. I dont think my stock C32 can trap 108+.

You're such a magazine racer.
![Roll Eyes](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif)
First of all, the LS1 in the F-body is much the same engine as the Vette, save for different engine mounts and other miscellaneous stuff. I know because I've seen LS1 F-body dyno numerous times. I'm a big F-body fan.
Secondly, anything is possible on the street. That's all I'm going to say.
You can sit there on the shitter reading Car & Driver comparing numbers, and be a magazine racer looking like a fucking idiot.
As soon as you mentioned LS1 in the F-body was less than the Vette, I knew you were a fucking magazine racer. Then you confirmed by suspicion by quoting my track times and copmaring it to the M3.
Once again, anything is possible on the street. And I'm sure anybody who has a good amount of experience in racing will back me up on that.
Lastly before I end this, I straight off the bat said that I'm not here to assert that my car can beat on M3's. I know I can't and I would lose to them. But like I've already said numerous times, it was a fluke due to probably a number of minor reasons that led up to my keeping up with this particular M3 at that particular time in that particular place.
So what the hell is your problem?
