I think I meant "Rusty Rotors"!

OK - so I am learning. After a few searches I have heard talk about rusty rotors. I think that is what I have (not "Rusty Wheels")!! I just drove my car around the block (after finding rust on the disk behind the hub caps yesterday after driving in the rain) and most of the rust went away but there still is some on the rim on the rotor and a small band toward the center on the wheels.

Is this normal?? Should I be doing something to be sure rust does not sit on the rotors? I live off of the D.C. Beltway so after I drove in an awful rain I only went a few blocks before I arrived home (and I don't have a garage). I rained hard for hours and today I saw the rotors were totally rusted. Should I drive and brake after driving in the rain?? Also - why is there still some rust on the rim of the rotor (width)?? Will this cause harm??

Any help would ease my anxiety and I do have Rust on the brain!!! ekkkkkkk

Rustito (but I totally love the CL-S w/Nav. in Aegean blue - what a beauty!! Oh, keep cool anyone living in the DC area!!

Happens to all cars, not only the CL. You may hear a grind the first few times you use the brakes, but it's just getting the rust off. I don't know why it does it. I guess it's like brass tarnishing, it just does.

I bought some silver high heat paint in a can and painted the outside lip of the rotor and cooling fins as well as the hub section, the part that the wheel bolts to. They were both very rusty. It takes a while to do, but the end result is pretty nice.

Is spending all that time painting the edges of cheesy rotors that are going to warp and need replacing in less than 20K miles really worth it?
