I Shouldn't Beat up on Honda's

But I just had to in this case.

I had just got done putting the GIAC X-Chip ECU back in the S4 and went out for the requisite test drive. I was a couple of miles down the road and about to make a u-turn when what appeared to be an ’88 or ’89 Prelude turns out of the neighborhood I am turning in front of. This thing was not in nice shape and had, what had to measure 6 inches, a large and loud muffler. I had owned an ’88 4WS back some 15 years ago and loved it (one of my favorites to this day); this person did not love their car.

Anyway, this u-turn spot is normally where I get on it as all fluids are normally up to temp by now. So I got in it through 2nd and went by the Prelude. I then slowed ahead and as the Prelude pulled up it started pacing me. Well the only light between me and home turned red. So I slowed and stopped at the light with the Prelude next to me. I had no intention of racing this car as I was sure it wasn’t a sleeper. But he proceeds to rev at me, which I just glanced over to see a couple of guys about 20 years old just staring straight ahead. I still didn’t plan on running him as it wasn’t worth it.

But when the light changed he had the nerve to let loose and spin his tires. At this point I gave in and got on it. Boost shot up to about 18 PSI and complete traction was available allowing all 380 lb/ft to pull me ahead at a rate that they did look like they went in reverse. I went to 2nd and held on to about 1k shy of redline so still within the realms of acceptable speed, even for the local authorities. At which point he was bus lengths back.

As expected and even though I was driving just over the speed limit he kept back some ways. I turn in my neighborhood and he goes flying by with his bass hitting. I honestly felt bad that I did this to him as it wasn’t fair. But I have been driving around for nearly two weeks on stock boost so I had to test everything out.

What kinda dumbass would attempt to race an S4 in a prelude. What year is ur S4? With a good chip it should be at around 370+hp.

It is a 2001.5. A chip will not give 370 HP, the K03 turbos can't flow enough for that. With the GIAC X-Chip about 320 crank HP is had. But that is with the stock exhaust but also making 380 lb/ft at the crank. With down pipes and exhaust, which go on in a couple of weeks, the crank outout should be close to about 350 HP and the torque closing in on 400 lb/ft. For reference, with the DPs and exhaust that crank output of 350 HP and 400 lb/ft will drop to a wheel output of about 275 WHP and 315 lb/ft.

Yes, having that midrange torque and AWD traction makes driving around town fun. But it doesn't come close to comparing the highway pull my CL-S6 SC/IC had.

With K04's and all other associated items, like with the AWE upgrade kit. about 450 crank HP is available:

Nice kill more like a massacre..I had a 91 Prelude Si and still that was one of my favorite cars, listening to the ex-wife I traded it in for a Camry ( huge mistake ). The S4 is a mean machine but I get scared of the turbo issues they have. I was playing with a new one and that sucker growls like a grizzly after 100.. The S4 is looking more and more welcoming with the gains you have, I might just have to give wifey the CL..

don't lie... the Prelude didn't have enough power to spin his tires. =)

If you felt so bad for him, you should have thrown him some tissue to dry his eyes after you spanked him.

Gotta teach them youngsters a lesson sometime

The appropriate personalized tag on your S4 would read "BLUEBYU", but is sounds as if the Prelude wouldn't have had time to read it.....Great to see you back Steve!
