well auto stock Z are capable of high 13s but not a lot of ppl can do that but it s possible.
I have seen auto Z hit 13.9s and i have seen some that ran high 14s.. i have seen some dyno sheet of some Z/G that dynoed stock 250something HP to the wheel and some only has 215 WHP...

Great! I'll PM pimpscls and arrange a run for next week. I should be getting my car back by Wednesday at the latest and I have a chem final on Thursday, so Thursday nite or Friday nite I'm down to run.

I've made close to 50 passes down the 1/4 mile and I've seen a bunch of auto Z's at the track... but I've never seen a stock auto Z break into the 13s. Usually in the 14.4-14.6 range. Most of the guys who have the 6MT can't drive either so they rarely hit 13s as well.

I wouldn't recommend taking everything you read at the Z forum at face value. Apparently mostly stock Z's can beat 03 Corvette's and Blown Mustangs.

WTF does so many people think the Z/G35 is untouchable?I raced one in my Mustang from a highway roll and I pulled on it, and my Mustang is not anything close to a top speed racecar.
They have very useable power, thats for sure. But they still are only a V6, and with the auto put down about what, 225hp/220tq? Thats 20whp/30wtq more than the CL-S 5AT, and that is going to make it a full second faster?
The only 13 second 350Z/G35 I've seen at the track was a couple mildly modded 6 speed's with dr's. Just because ONE person made a miracle 13.9 run in a stock 350Z auto doesnt mean that they all do it easily.
Supposedly someone ran a stock CL-S6 to a 14.2, does that mean that anytime someone races a stock 6 speed it is a low 14 sec car?

I never said Z's were untouchable...I just want to run a cl-s as I have not yet. I highly doubt your stang pulled on a Z up top but whatevers. Also I don't dyno anywhere near 220rwhp, but then again I'm not stock.

Well what does a 350Z auto stock trap at? I dont know if it was an auto or 6 speed because like I said it was a highway roll (55mph), which is a perfect drop point for my 3rd gear.
And I've surprised more than a few people on the expressway with my Mustang. It doesnt have a ton of power past 5k rpm, but it has lots of tq from 2500-4500, so once I shift into the next gear its right back in the powerband.

Apples and Oranges
Nissan makes the 350z as a sports car.
Acura made the CL as a nice sporty tourer.
The fact that a big tubby CL can even close to hang with a sports car is impressive. I've got video of a Type S turning high 13s if anyone would like to see it. No way it's stock - but I don't think it's blown either- so potentially - low 13s are possible in the CL.
Lets see a 2001 G35 sedan run with a 2001 Type S TL ? No contest.
Lets see a 2005 G35 sedan run with a 2005 ASpec TL? Closer than the previous race, but advantage Honda again.
Keep in mind however that all of the above sedans were built to challenge the 3 series offerings from BMW - which, it still seems that an M3 will toast anything in that class....
Counterpoint however - the G45 would probably kill the RL.
Ya know what - three letters. NSX. Say no more...
I've driven a few of the most recent mustang offerings. HEY FORD - BUILD A V8 CAR THAT YOU CAN SEE OVER THE DAMN HOOD ON! I wouldnt autocross one of those for fear of running over a small object on the track (like a MACK TRUCK or PYLON) without even ever seeing it. Jump in a G35, a CL, hell even a Civic. The hood is barely in your peripheral vision. You can point the car in a direction and see where it's going to go.
V8 American cars - the 60s are over. Maybe the Fords and GMs of the world can engineer a sub $40,000 offering that can class with the imports. The new Caddy CTS is impressive with the vette engine in it. - but that does blow the $40,000 pricetag, and gas is so cheap these days....
Dodge has a great concept in the 13 second neon they're selling for $19k - but it's a NEON...it's boosted...and it's a dodge. In english that means piston rings at 15k, transmission grinds after 7,500 miles, pops, rattles and cheap plastic interiors.
I see even Saturn is offering a "Red-Line" edition of their vehicles now. For under $25,000 you can get a dishwasher safe, 240 horsepower grocery getter. Something about fast tupperware scares me. You'd think an all plastic car would be light. They must be using railroad ties for frames or something to tip the scales where they are. And just think - all of this to keep up with a 200hp RSX - which will still be worth 45% more than them in 5 years, and won't be smoking and stalling at 100,000 miles.
Check out this place for some decent guidelines on 1/4 mile times. Granted - it's just some website - so don't take things TOO seriously....

Stock S2000 vs Stock 350z convertible on the 1/4 mile would also be interesting.

Sure - again, it's just a website but....
Completely agreed!
WARNING - PUT YOUR BOOTS ON BEFORE VISITING THE AFOREMENTIONED LINK!
Look at the car, look at the general range of times. 2 or 3 are slower than most - 1 or 2 are faster than most - look at any vehicle. Somewhere in the middle of the range are fairly realistic numbers. It's far from a page of facts - but it's a good resource to see if someone is just blowin smoke....
you can get an idea from the 50 or so timeslips that someone saying their 89 escort is running 11s is probably on a missing poster somewhere from the looney bin....
Ya dig?

Once again
READ THE POST AND GET THE POINT - YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT A PLUSH ACURA LUXURY COUPE VS NISSANS LATEST SPORTS CAR....
Much props to the new Z car - I think it's the sharpest ride on the road under $40k
The old 300z turbos were badass cars (and I think they put down more ponies than the new ones didnt they?)
The 280, 260, 240 - it's a great car line.
It, however, is not a luxury car by any stretch (G35 Infiniti Coupe is plush, but it's also a sports car)
and as stated - I've got video of a CL-S running 13.9 without boost....
Point being - they shouldnt be on the track together, and the Acura can hang with it.

numbers generated from MSN, edmunds, Motor Trend, Yahoo Autos, and Dealer sites.
2004 Nissan 350z coupe
3188 lbs Curb Weight
$30,630 price tag
3.5L 287 hp V6
Horsepower 287 @ 6200 RPM
Torque (lb-ft) 274 @ 4800 RPM
0-60 in 5.2 seconds
Stock 1/4 mile time average = 14.3
2001 Acura CL Type S
3525 lb Curb weight
$21,000 price tag (current)
3.2L 260 hp V6
Horsepower 260 @ 6100 RPM
Torque (lb-ft) 232 @ 3500 to 5000 RPM
0-60 in 6.4 seconds
Stock 1/4 mile time average = 14.9
If all the 350z is taking is .5 seconds in the 1/4 mile with the Acura giving up 337 lbs, 27 horsepower, 42 foot lbs of torque and 1.2 seconds in the 0-60 time, then yes - I consider that "hanging with". Bear in mind .5 seconds in the 14 second brackets is a hell of a lot less than .5 seconds in the 10s.

pimpscls- I have a couple of basic boltons here and there and I put down some pretty nice numbers. We could do a couple of runs, from a dig, from a roll, whatever you want.
jtkz13- I agree with you on the torque part and it is easily possible you pulled on the Z at those speeds. I had initially thought u mean triple digit speeds. I drove a friends 02 gt once and that thing has a shatload of torque and felt stronger than my car becuz of its powerband. The Z is a quick car but feels incredibly weak after 2nd due to its linear powerband. Its funny when friends want to see how fast my car is I say look at the speedo cuz you'll hardly feel a pull.

Ummm, I have a 94 GT and I can see over the hood perfectly fine. As a matter of fact I have to lean forward and sit up to see the entire hood. I have auto-x'ed and road-raced mine with lots of success, placing 3rd in STS at my very first auto-x. Its called spacial relationship, or maybe you're just short.
I just sat in an 05 Mustang GT and I'll be the first to say it has a very very nice interior. Not as luxury feeling as my CL, but for the money it will be very hard to beat.
I dont think 14.3 1/4 time is average for an auto Z, probably closer to 14.5. 14.3 is probably a good bet for the average stock 6mt G35/350Z.
And z33 I know exactly what you mean. My Mustang feels so much more ballsy than my CL-S, but it only traps 1mph more. When I extend my useable tq curve past 5k rpm it'll run 12's without breaking a sweat.
