I'm coming up on 9 months of ownership, 13,000 miles, no paint chips, not even a door bang. So far, so good.
Body damage from hail or others is the relative price we pay for speed. Our sheet metal is only 0.8 millimeters thick, or about 0.032" thick. Grab six sheets of computer paper. That is 0.030" thick, that's your sheet metal. Doubleing that thickness would probably add at least 200 pounds to our already fat pigs.
When I was a youngen', 6 or 7, our car was a 53 chevrolet. I remember Dad rear ending a guy, and it was pretty hard. It would probably do 5, 6,000$ damage today on our cars. I'd say we hit the parked car between 10 to 13 mph.
Not only did nothing dent, NOTHING EVEN MOVED!
