Wow that is really scary but fun to watch. I really feel sorry for all those people..insurance companies must love black ice. That BMW slamming into the corner sucked...ripped him right open.

Oh my god, sooo many morons. You'd think people would slow down when see accidents and cars and yellow trucks ahead. The funniest thing is that I keep seeing people who wreck then open their doors to get out while another car is about to slam into them, without even looking first.

There should be two people to blame for the chain of accidents.

1) the fucking moron camera man: for not warning drivers there is black ice...instead just sitting there filming that shit happen over and over again.

2) the moron driving the yellow construction vehicle w/ the arrow blinker pointing the wrong direction. He misled the BMW to go to the right of the accident...when the driver realized that wasn't the right path, it was already too late. Plus that damn owner of the construction vehicle looked like he was slow moving idiot. It took him forever to realize his shit was pointing the wrong direction.

Brakes are useless in this case, in fact...probably more harmul then helpful. Noticed everyone that went by had their tires locked...a big no no driving on black ice. especially those who don't have ABS.

Damn, that bmw got really focked up. At least now we know the strength of the bmw sheet metal, reminds me of a tuna can getting opened by a can opener.
That traffic guy couldn't even differentiate right from left, looks like he's gonna be spending the weekend welding that beemer back together.

 

what i can't understand is why the one car rammed the back of the jeep cheroke. why didn't it just go over the sidewalk woulda been better that hitting the guy and prob hurtin his ass plus u already know ur car is gonna get messed up anyway.

 

when you're wheels are locked on ice, it doesn't matter which way you turn. It's like being on a inner tube going down an icy hill...absolutely no control.

 

Correct. At that point it becomes pure vector physics. The vectors of mass (COG) and speed are all that matter on a frictionless surface (OK, maybe not that easy, but you get the point).

I agree, the worse thing to do is brake when you're on the black ice. Granted, there really are not many good options if you are already in the situation. The best thing would have been to graaaaadualllly slow down with a combo of engine and light brake before hitting the patch.

...or maybe aiming the car directly at the asswipe camera-person filming this shit.

around here they spray de-icer on the road if they even think it may freeze.

When did BMW start putting Dynamic Stability Control on the 3 series? Not getting trashed on that ice was probably 50% luck, 25% driver, 25% car.

That's where I live. Actually that footage was at the exit I get off at to go to my office. It honestly wasn't that bad. I couldn't believe what I saw on T.V. when I got home that afternoon.

Last night I was driving to see my Bully at my ex-wife's house, and I was going around a curve on a country-ass road in the woods when I caught a patch of ice, started heading for a mailbox, spun to the left, back to the right, and finally straightened my shit out. I almost shit myself, cuz I was totally not expecting that ice there. Nearly the entire road was dry up to that point.

 

We have wrecks at the entrence to my school's parking lot almost once a week - the idiot kids who feel the need to floor it around the very tight 90 degree turn end up losing it when it's icy. When i first started driving the VSA saved my ass quite a few times.
