I can't sell my CL-S

What's the deal with our cars??? The value of them have gone to shit and it seems like there is no demand.

I have had it listed for over a month now (Autotrader magazine, Autotrader.com & Cars.com) and not even one phone call. I even put in the Black Market. I just don't get it, it is listed for $16,900 (44k miles) and no takers. Am I missing something here???

For those who have successfully sold their CL-S recently:
  1. How much did you get?
  2. What was the mileage when sold it?
  3. How long did it take you to sell it?

Unfortunately, the only people now willing to buy CLS's are lookin' for the 6 speed I would imagine.

SFLA,

Here is why, tonight i was at Rick case Honda, getting the Ole Free car wash for life lol .....

Anyways they had a 02 CLS Blue/Black 43K and they reduced to $16.9 from 18K, Any good buyer wanting to play hard ball could walk away buying it from probably under 16K, i mean whos buying a car a xmas.. and knowing them they want to sell, after all they sold 8000 hondas last year

I tried to sell my 01 CLS Certified B2B warranty till 100K.. The best offer i got was 16.5, actually at RCH on a trade for a 03 Merc C280...that was about 4months ago... and he was streching it. Private selling 0 calls...

Might be able to get you a better trade $$ at RCA... with my contact there as we talked about before....if you can't get any private buyer.....let me know, i'll try and help you at RCA

Car sales in December are the worst all year. This could be the biggest reason for lack of interest in your car. However, another big thing IMHO is that folks get nervous buying a modified car, even if they're just bolt-on mods. Our cars are really fast right off the showroom floor, and are some of the most popular "hot rodded" rice burners ever made. We like to have fun with our cars, and extensive mods indicate to a prospective buyer that we have used our cars for more than just getting the groceries and picking up the dry cleaning.

If I saw one for sale that already had tons of mods, I would be leery that it had been driven hard, regardless of the low miles. If I had to choose between one that was already modded to the teeth versus one that was bone stock, I'd choose the stock one every time!

A popular practice on ebay is to strip items apart and sell the individual parts. I buy guitars occasionally, and it drives me crazy when I see a perfectly good guitar dismantled, and all the components sold in separate auctions. My emotional reaction aside, the owner probably made more money doing this than if he sold the instrument as one item. Something to consider may be to put the car back in it's stock form and sell it that way, then sell your mods separately!! Consider posting it on ebay as well. It's a little pricey, but your audience is huge!

The Tranny issues are hitting this car HARD and that’s probably a big part of the dropped values.
And it’s only gonna get worse.
Unless you go private, it’s dragging the 6-Speed numbers down as well.
I still say they’ll be worth MORE then an auto in a few years, but that’s just my opinion.

The CL-S looks like it’s gonna be one of those “drive it till it dies” cars for me.
My next car will probably be a dedicated RWD sports car and I’ll keep the CL-S for 100K or more as a bad weather vehicle.

I like it more then I’ll ever get for a trade or private sale so I’ll continue to drive it.

too much press regarding the Honda 5AT. Also, CL's are no longer manufactured and like the Oldsmobile, people get nervous buying discontinued vehicles. I guess there is a real concern about repair parts etc.

To answer the initial question:

1. $22k - What I was asking.
2. 23,6xx when sold
3. About six weeks to sell it.

I didn't have a call until about four weeks in. However, I did have a couple forum members express and interest and nearly closed with one. It was the second caller which ended up purchasing it within a few days after seeing it. I then got another call about a week later with another inquiry and the guy sounded like he was about to cry when I told him it was sold.

However, this is a 6MT. I believe I could have gotten a little more for it had I listed it higher and been patient. But it was sitting in storage and I wanted to move it. As Shawn has alluded in the past, I believe the 6MT will hold their value better. There will be a smaller market which will require patience in selling them but to the buyer who wants it, the limited availability will command a higher price IMO.

I agree, that’s a big part of getting a good price for a somewhat rare vehicle.
Like I’ve said in the past about when I sold my 91 Legend Coupe 5-Speed.
The Acura dealer looked down on it because it was a stick shift and only offered me 7,800 on a trade for my 2001 CL-S.
It took a couple of weeks, but I sold it privately for 11,500 to someone who had been searching MONTHS for a Gen II Legend Coupe manual in good condition.
Not bad for a car that was 8-years old at the time with 110,000 miles.

Hopefully I find someone similar when I sell the Blue Blinger.

There is NO MARKET in south FL. That is the problem. My 6 speed has been for sale since June. Priced below market value. I got 2 way low offers & that was it.
I got calls from other South FL sellers to ask me if I had gotten any takers on my car.

i just sold my 2003 cl-s red/black auto and navi for 20,000 cash last week and the car has 32k miles, tint and remote starter, but it was in an accident. It took me about a month and it was on autotrader, watch out for the scamers. I sold it locally. Good Luck

Just sold my 2001 CL S. Started at the blue book of $15,700 (great condition, 89,000 miles which knocked $2K off, BBS wheels and Navi). Listed in two local papers and Yahoo Autos. No calls for 2 weeks. Since I had just purchased the Accord, I lowered the price to $14,900. No call for 2 weeks. Lowered again to $13,750 and received 5 calls within 3 days. Sold for $13,500.

I once had an experienced (read "older") car salesman tell me ... if it ain't selling it's either 1) priced too high OR 2) there is something wrong with it.

Our cars are worth what they're worth. Must say that with all of the deals for new cars, the price of used cars has gone down as well. Good luck.

i just bought mine for $16K --- the prices are depressed now, good for buyers but sucks for sellers. Plus in FL, all people want are convertibles anyways right! Carmax ia always a good last resort. good luck.

Problem #1 = See above quote. Remember...manufacturers are offering heavy rebates this time of year.

Problem #2 = Not a big car-buying(or any large-purchase) season.

Could be the market in your area as well. But, I think it has more to do with time of year than anything else.

I can say from a lenders perspective that I haven't done a ton of loans and historically won't do a ton of loans in November/December/January...just a bad time of year to sell.

FWIW, I don't think the trannies being a POS have much to do with resale on these cars...as Honda did an excellent job of ignoring the issue to make it go away.

Sold mine to a forum member for $17.7
Still had the CT headers, AEM CAI, CT Springs, and HKS Exhausts
57k Miles. Of course he was sold on the car after coming to a relativley large meet and seeing how dedicated everyone else was about the cars, but honestly I think it was the VTEC roar of the CAI that sold him

I heard the exact same thing when I was shopping for a 6-speed CL. THe salesman (cool guy but dealership were dicks) said they took in a 6-speed legend on trade and gave like 9500 for it which was way over book for a regular Legend. Anyone know how the numbers compare on the Legend 6-speeds produced verses the CL 6-speeds? I know us fortunate souls with the 6-speeds are sitting on a very rare animal. I have a feeling the Legend 6-speed was even rarer though.

They werent popular when they were new so they arent bound to be used unless coupe's really make a comeback, or the kids start discovering them as a bargain perf car. I disagree that it is all the tranny issue as the 4 dr's still sell ok and are worth roughly 2k more that the coupes.
