How to warm up car faster?

What do you guys do to warm up the car faster? I hate sitting in the car for 20 mins and still not able to get the ice off the windows? I rev the engine to 4k rpm a few times... but that doesnt help

As soon as you start the car, put one of these in front of the accelerator pedal.

It'll take 2 minutes of driving after you let the car warm up for 30 seconds to get that heat going real well. Just be a man and scrape the ice off.

Start it while you scrape the ice and snow off, and drive it. Mine gets warm in a few minutes.

I'm missing the connection between revving and defrosting.

I personally scrape the rear, front, side, while my engine's on. Max~5 minutes.

I thought I was going to have to piss on my car to unfreeze the door....last winter I could not get my door open so I had to go through the passenger side.

Alcohol. works wonders, put a little cheap vodka in a spray bottle and spray the lock. That is all the de-icers that you buy are.

I do scrape the ice, it just wont come off. I guess I should pick up some deicer, or get a better scraper.

Get a block heater installed. The car gets up to operating temp, and starts blowing warm
air a lot quicker.

The block heater? Definitely! My car lives outside (the garage is too
full of toys ) and the block heater makes a big difference. On mornings like
today when its -30C, it cranks at almost normal speed. But without the block
heater, cranking is like "wuh-(pause)-wuh-(pause)-wuh" - say a prayer, cross
your fingers, swing a frozen cat over your head 3 times - and maybe it'll start!

Just kidding about the prayer ............

It was SIX degrees outside today and a balmy TWENTY TWO inside the garage.
But at least I didn’t have to scrape ice.

It isn't the lock, it is the door that gets stuck with ice between it and the door jamb.

It works there also. Used to have to do it to my old honda when it was parked out side and there was an ice storm. Froze all my doors closed.

I wish cars had RPM cruise instead of speed. Diesel trucks are awesome b/c you can jump in and set the cruise on 1K rpm (like 2500-3000 in our cars) and get the sucker heated up pretty quick while you wait inside.

Too bad you're not located in the Bay Area, CA. There's a Good Guys installer who said he would install a remote starter in my 6MT if I wanted it. But since I don't have to deal with ice on the window very often here I opted not to do the install.

Any reputable shop should be able to do it. There are LOTS of precautions they have to take (all kinds of fscking interlocks, etc). If they don't want to do it they A) don't have great insurance or B) they are lazy.

You should never ever rev a cold engine, tho it may not be so bad if you're using synthetic motor oil. I hear Mobil is coming out w/ a new line of synthetics that are supposed to increase change interval to 10K and 15K. Prestone de-icer ownz ju.

Revving it up kind of negates the point of warming up the engine.

Why would you rev a cold engine?

You're just asking for trouble......
