Nice thread for those of use still considering this mod.

In addition to miles please add any comments about problems with it (detonation), need for >91 octane fuel, number of times you had to tweak something (like fuel management), number of times you had to email or call Jens for a fix-it, time spent enjoying it vs time spent worrying about it, any other issues.

I'm not trying to belittle your mod, but there seems to be an awful lot of commentary on this product that Comptech seems to sell as a consumer friendly product. Comptech markets this like they do their springs or sways -- install and 'forget about it'. My impression is that it's a little problematic and requires constant tweaking.

Please, correct me if I'm wrong.

I want to see comments that show the supercharger as plug & play as opposed to plug & pray.

about 700 miles now...

I can honestly say that I have had not had a problem with the S/C. The required parts to install the Charger where a different story.. ... but it all got worked out..

Not sure how many miles, about 3k – 4k I guess.

As for needing attention, not really. For the most part, if you leave it the way Comptech sent it to you, all should be fine. It is just that of the small number of people who have bought it, most are trying to extract more out of it. This will require investigation and tuning along with the associated problem solving.

Soon, we should have methods in place which will define how to get more out of it without any problems.

Without pushing it to it's limits, or getting more out then Comptech designed, do you feel it's like any other bolt-on mod, or does it require some level of tweaking (either immediately or down the road)?

For instance, factory included super or turbochargers require very little upkeep or tweaking to maintain the car as it was off the lot (just your usual oil changes, tune ups, etc). What more, if anything, is required with a Comptech supercharger to get it working trouble free (with 91 octane fuel)?

Another way of asking -- is this mod made for the long run in a daily driver (as Comptech suggests) for a guy without a whole garage worth or tools and time at his disposal or is it made for someone that is the consummate tweak-a-holic?

To answer simply, yes... If installed and left alone there is just the matter of changing the SC oil every 50k or so and cleaning the intake filter (which needs to be done regardless). Outside of that all other maintenence plan stipulated by the factory should be followed.

So it is an install it and forget about it item provided it is left the way it was delivered from Comptech.

7500 miles on it, and is has been squeezed 7 times now and varying stages. All is well, sometimes while squeezing I'll have my tach hold at 6.8K for like two seconds then it finally shifts to the next gear and BOTH of my VSA lights come on (the triangle of course is already on) and then stay on (both of them) till I turn the car off Looks like the tranny is trying to do its best. But other than that no problems. I did have a lower hp output than comptech claimed the auto S/C produced, but me and my mechanic live to turn, so it also wasn't a problem. I only run 91 oct, and have had no problem, even with the 100 shot. Once the 3.5 block shows up, we plan on using octane boosters in conjunction with the 91 from there out. Note: the pistons Dean is having forged will lower compression to around 9:1. Despite all the other crap that I do to my car, the S/C was the most painless major modification that I have done and I have no complaints or issues with it. The first 6K of the 7.5K miles on the charger were DAILY DRIVEN miles. works like a charm.

And Yes it is a daily driver unless you wish to push it to WOT every time you drive it...

then you will more than likely see a decrease in MPG's....

Thanks. Good replies.

If I only had $5K lying around now -- I have to rebuild the slush fund coffers after the Subaru purchase. Apart from Konis, which I'll probaby get down the line, the supercharger would be the final mod purchase I make for this car (ok, and then there's brakes too, but I was going to wait until my stock set fails...).

Hopefully Comptech will still be making these a year or two from now.

I am sure they will be producing them in 365 days from now... I just hope you order it a good month in advance to your PLANNED install date.... Most of us waited about 30-50 days for the unit to arrive on our doorsteps even though payment was in full....

Didn't know that! 50 day wait after a multi-$1000 payment. I guess that I'll call ahead to reserve one before I plunk down that level of cash.

The S/C'er are like Sheetz Gas station Sandwiches... MTO (made to order)....LOL..

They get alot of different parts from different distributors and assemble the kits when someone orders them... So don't think they have them laying around on a shelf....

p.s. some of the Co.'s C/T deals with drag their feet getting them the parts....
Well that is atleast what I was told..... Sort of like the time when I ordered springs and sways..."Sorry for the long wait, we got a batch coming back from the powdercoater this month"....... Riiiiiiight... always blame it on someone else... ya know!.

I'm calling you out on this one. If you have an auto-tranny CL, like your username suggests, you could only have had the S/C for a few months. 37000 implies about a 8-10K/month driving habit.

What's the scoop?

11,000 miles since I installed it on an '03 TL-S over Memorial Day weekend '03, without a single adjustment, or problem, of any kind.

Since premium here is 93 octane, I was able to install the high boost pulley, again, without a single adjustment, or problem, of any kind.

What's the performance difference in the standard and high boost pulleys? Does the high-boost come with the S/C kit or is it sold sep?

Also, any dyno's of these with CT Headers also installed? I've yet to see one, including from Comptech. Can someone please post any links to them if you have them or if you've dyno'd your CL-S.

Thanks,
Jon

Thanks scalbert, btw, is Eric's CL-S an Auto or 6sp? Oh yeah, and does comptech make the high-boost pulley or someone else, my dealer says the warranty is fine as long as I stick with comptech.

Eric has a 6-Speed. Comptech does make the higher boost pulley but it is not readily available and they no longer warranty the blower with it installed.
