how does this performance mod sound?

I am in Taiwan now for my vacation.
Today i checked out an auto shop ran by a cuz's friend. he does some mod himself (he drives a TC 93 MR2), and says one of the easiest mod i can do now on the CL-S is to put in a "fuel injection pressure regulator".
Basically it is a little device (with a pressure meter) that "forces" more fuel into the engine (and less flow back to the gas tank), causing the RPM to rise more quickly. That thing costs about US $100. Does anyone know if this will work on the CLS?

Here is AEM's fuel pressure regulator. Unfortunately they currently don't make one for the 99/00/01 TL/CL

Mchtypes used on on his car, and got 0 performance out of it. I believe this is true. Thats why people who lean out the top end get more power. Our cars are made to run richer then leaner as the revs go up. FPR will not be effective, unless we have a SC.

Yeah I wouldn't even mess with one unless you do it in tandem with a super-charger, otherwise I'm sure the stock system is more than adequate.

The thing to keep in mind here is that the ecu in a modern car controls injector duration or in other words how much fuel the injector is allowed to inject at a time.if you add a device such as this what the ecu will see is a rich mixture which it will attempt to lean ou by reducing injector "on time" untill it can no longer compensate. When this happens it is said that the ecu is off it's map and turns on the check engine light most likely throwing a code for excessively rich mixture.Jens

Jens,

Would the V-AFC also make it to show a check engine light?

You won't really need a FPR on ur cars. Max hp increase is 1-2 dynoed. It works good on turbo or nitrous setups or even an agressive cam setup. Well pretty much anything that requires more fuel to go to ur injectors. Don't think of it as a performance modification. Think more of something to help control fuel pressure manually. The fuel settings on a vtec controller can only do so much.

I'm not Jens, but if you pushed it far enough out-of-limits, so that the computer couldn't close the loop for the o2 sensor, I'm sure it would.

hey i got some. a fuel pressure regulator is a good mod if u have mods.
heres some intresting info from the SPORT COMPACT CAR magazine in their special honda tuning edition for 2001.
pg 70
Conventional wisdom dictates that an upgraded fuel pressure regulator is only needed on an engine w/ forced induction. Adequate fuel delivery under boost is crucial to ensure your engine doesn't end up as shrapnel all over the road.
However, a high-flow intake, header and exhaust combo also frees more airflow in and out of the engine. At WOT, it's not uncommon for engines to be running lean while breathing through a high-flow intake and exhuast.

We have experienced some cases of check engine lights illuminating when these decices are used.Keep in mind thta these V-AFC devices are there to help you tune a car that has been modified. The addition of CAI or exhaust work is not enough of a reason to install one of these units. The factory ecu has ample programming in it to accomodate these mods.Jens
