Question How do you correct computer for change in tire size?

I have a 2001 CL-S. I would like to change tire size from 215x50x17 to a tire size that will give me a greater number of tire choices / brands while not affecting the ABS and the electronic handling control which both depend on the tire and wheel size. Is there a way to adjust the cars computer to compensate for a change in tire size?

Only thing that would be affected would be the speedo and odometer. The other things you mentioned would not be affected by just a change in tire size

Try going with 235/45 or 225/45.

.5 OVER .5 UNDER THE CAR WILL BE FINE ...your milage will be off accordingly but the abs/VSA wont suffer

If you go into the diagnostic mode you can change a few things but you can also mess things up but its kinda cool having those settings. You press menu + map + cancel at the same time or you first press menu then map then cancel and hold them for 15-20 seconds. It will take you to the diagnostic mode... **caution** Dont change things around because some of the changes are permanent...

That's crazy. Makes me want to get a Navi even more next time around.

So you basically told me how to screw up my navi

Is it self explanatory to back out without changing anything?

Interesting. While that is good to know, I have no idea why I would ever change any of those settings, except for tire calibration, which, by the way is (I believe) for satellite tracking purposes only, not for wheel size/speed calibration.

It is good to know that is there because now when I get my 18s I know to get my speedometer calibrated and my Navi.

Thanks for the info. My Acura dealer told me that changing tire size would screwup ABS and VSE, and they could not recalibrate the computer. Is there a way to correct for the changes on a 2001 CL-S?

As I have read the CL/TL ECU is not flashable so you can't change anything. You would have to have a device(like e-manage) connected first to flash then go to the ECU.

I'm not sure, but the navi system has a tire calibrator on it. You can increase or decrease values.

But does it work? It might be on there & might have been there hidden becasue it was for another application.

I've been running 235/45's on stock 17's for 30k miles and my abs and vsa still work. True they are calibrated as a system for the 215/50 but since 235/45 is very close to stock diameter, there shouldnt be a problem. Also, tires vary slightly within the same size so to say it will get screwed up is a CYA exaggeration. That means going from Michelin to the same size Dunlop could "screw it up". Find another dealer.
