How do the door ding repair places do it???
I'll take a pics later this week of my nasty ass door ding that I got from some focker. There's a 1 million dollar reward out for his/her arrest.
Anyhoo, I'm gonna get it fixed because it's unsightly and drives me to drink more after looking at it. I found a local shop that has been doing this for over 12 years. The "method" the guy is going to use is the following:
1) Jack up the car and remove the wheel
2) Drill a 1/4" - 1/2" hole in the wheel-well
3) Massage the dings out with various tools
4) Paint the dirlled hole (so it doesn't rust)
5) Plug the hole with a rubber fitting
6) Spay the rubber plug with a spray undercoat.
Voila... Back to 100% perfect.
I've seen this guy's work, and it looks great and I trust him.
My question... Is this the standard method of going about something like this? I guess the alternative would be to remove the panel, but that seems like an awful lot of work.
Anyone know the secrets of these guy's trade???

Find beauty in dissonance
Where is the dent? For a minor dent repair I thought a shop would simply remove interior trim or fender liners to gain access to a dent. The only problem would be a dent behind a support or frame. I have a dent on the quarter panel I need fixed, between the driver's door and gas door.

Ahh you pretty much nailed it on the head there.... some of them use a light and big yellow plastic reflector so they can reflect the light off the yellow bar and see the surface of the dent so they don't push it out too much with there angled bars..
They did my Mitsubishi a couple years back.. came right to me.. took out the taillight, drilled a hole, and fished the long angles bar down the side of the car.. then he put some silicone in the whole, pluged it and put the taillight back in..
took about 30 minutes..

You know the ridge that bisects through our doors and starts from each wheel well??? The raise sheet metal area?
There's one dent, about the size of a golf ball JUST above the "line", right inbetween the right-rear wheel and the passenger's door line. Then a faint crease runs about another six inches up from the golfball-sized dent, and concludes with a much smaller dent at the end of the line.
He commented on how he could also take apart the inside but said that this "method" will work just as well and be a hell of a lot easier in terms of prep time, etc.
