How dark should I get my tints?

My CL is black, and I am going to be getting tints soon. I just wanted a few opinions as to how dark I should get em. What would look the best on the black? My friends have 20% all around on their cars, and it looks really good. But my dad has advised me not to get too dark. Thanks in advance. Also on a side note, I heard from a mechanic I know who installs parts. I asked him about installing my H&R springs if and when I get them. This guy suddenly starts advising me to not get springs. He says that when you reach 80 mph, the car starts making excessive noise because of the springs. Any truth to this? Anyone experience something like this? He also said that I will scrape my car on steep driveways. I know this will probably happen, especially on cars that are really low, but are H&Rs so low that hitting the bottom is a concern?

looks like you are from socal, so the law states that you can only tint the 2 front side windows light (~70%) and the rest can be as dark as you want. front visor can be no lower than the as1 line.

My CLS is silver with the ebony interior. Last Saturday I got 20% tint on my rear window and rear sides, 70% on the front sides, and 5% on the moonroof. It's not as dark as I thought from the inside looking out (even at night).

I've never had a car with tint before, so I was initially going with 35% on the rear and rear sides, but the tint shop guy suggested 20%. I'm glad I took his suggestion, I really like the look. Now I need to update my pix!

Never mind what the law says for now. I was just wondering what would look the best. Also, any input on the springs issue will be greatly appreciated.

I have 35% all around on my silver with black interior. I like it. Not too dark to attract the wrong kind of attention, but still looks good. I have some pictures of it at www.msdcomputer.com/cl/page3.htm

I have 20% all around and never once has a cop said anything to me. I think it looks great. I know 35% would have been too light and anything less than 20 would have been way too dark. At night, i can still see out perfectly.

The legal limit here in NY is 35%, but I've gotten stopped by cops for speeding several times and they haven't said anything yet....

in that case, i prefer the shading be the same on all windows (not the front ones a lil lighter than the rears). i think medium all the way around is always good, but i wouldn't go more than dark.

I don't have an answer for your spring question but you may wan tto re-post it or do a search on your specific question title. That may help out.

Me personally....in WA the legal limit is 35%, but I like the 20% that my lady has on her Black Passat. Looks pretty tight. But one thing....I think you should do the same tint all the way around. That's just me though.

The only reason your springs would rattle over 80 mph would be if they weren't installed right. Go ahead and get your springs installed. I doubt you'll scrape over much...I can guarantee if they're installed right they'll make absolutely no noises at any speeds. Good luck. BTW, I'd do 20% all around.

YEAH....that makes sense. Why would all these guys put on springs if you couldn't go over 80mph quietly?! I'd go ahead and put them on as well, and make sure they do a good job. ENJOY your new toys!!!!!!

I have a Black/Ebony CL-S...and i just put 35% all the way around...looks really good, deceptively dark with the dark car and interior....I did it for the same reasons....didnt want to attract too much attention, but did want a tint and hopefully some releif for my ass when i get in on a hot day....still dont know if that really makes a difference, but the car looks sweet......and make sure you go with the same tint all around..another reason why i went lighter with the 35%.

I've got 5% all round on my CL. I've never understood why darker tint is illegal, well the other night I found out why!!!! I came less than a foot away from running over a person walking in my apt. complex. Just could not see her. After that I roll my windows down now at night!!!!! Think I'm going to get lighter tint.

i got 5% all around and im planning on tinting over it with another 5%. hahah. i've been through 35, 20, and 5 on my vehicles and i can tell u that visibilty at night decreases slighty between them. the only reall difference is from stock clear to any tint.
