how can i make my intake louder??
Ibought a while bak a CAI from ebay and loved the sound it made on our engines
so i got obsessd with the sound so i cut the pipefrom cai to short ram and drove it with short ram w out filter around the block and it was loud as hell when vtec kicked in!! when i put the filter on the sOund wasnt as loud , so i just slapped on the filter onto the throttle body and tht was the loudest vtec evr!! but i dont like the way it looks!!
is the atype of filter tht would sound really loud on my short ram??

If you attach the filter right to the throttle body your going to be sucking in hot air, This will take a signifant amount of life off your engine , and possible cause it to blow !!!

I remember seeing this EG with a K24 swap and was running a CAI but the end of the pipe was outside of the bumper , but it didnt look like a cone filter it was black and round and had some sort of screen on it! and it was hella loud
Does anyone might know wht it might be?

Ok ill agree with that...... but wont sucking in that hot air make it even hotter and there for causing even more wear to the engine ???? than if you were sucking cold air

having the filter that close wont harm the eninge in anyway, the only thing it will do is increase response because the is no medium of pipe for air to flow through, you might lose some torque down low but probably will gain some power in the higher rpm range.
and if the car is moving he wont have to worry about heat, once you are moving the air in the engine bay is slightly warmer than outside of the car. yeah he might get some heatsoak while sitting still, but thats about it.
and you can buy a velocity stack air filter from autozone, yeah I know it sounds crappy but it has decent flow and only costs about 20 bucks. if they have it.

i'll put MONEY on the fact throwing a filter on the tb will LOSE hp and tq...
my2cents:
CAI makes power due to it's length and how the air builds up speed before it hits the tb/manifold, cause the air molecules are in an orderly fashion which makes for greater ease of entry to the motor...
so putting a filter on the tb would ruin that. not to mention that's hot air ur sucking up... yummm
if there was a way to make more power with an intake set-up we'd know about it.
now u can throw a velocity stack on a cai and make more power... so u are getting rid of the filter which is a restriction... but then u can suck up gunk into the motor.
I dunno what tho point of having a filter and velocity stack would be though... i cannot even picture how it would function actually... nor see the relevance

I put a custom CAI on a friend of mines lancer where the fog light was, it seemed like it was alot louder and he got lot of power. I tryed to put mine in the lower grille area when I built it but its hard and there are to many bends to get any gains from it but if you wanted to take out the fog light put the Velocity stack there and get lots of gains and it would be louder too. but it may be better to just point a filter out that way but be carefull of puddles LOL

i got my intake from www.weaksauceparts.com i think you'll have to call them to get the filter and velocity stack but heres how it looks. BTW its a 3'' inlet
and here's how it sounds...

Velocity stack - air smoothly transitions into a small area.
Regular air filter - air hits a ridge which disrupts the flow before entering the smaller area.
It works with or without a filter.

the point of the filter is so nothing goes into your engine. Its a very free flowing filter and the filter is on the outside of the velocity stack. the stack goes into the middle right before the piping. therefore after the air flows pass the filter the velocity stack makes the air more smoothly flowing
