Holly Molly, Altima in 5.9 seconds for the frikcing 0-60mph
On Motorweek hours ago. Mind you that Motorweek is usually on the low side. 0-60 in 5.9 and 14.4 for the 1/4 mile at 100 mph!!!
All that with the 240HP V6 5 speed manual gearbox. This thing will kill us. Dont even bother. I doubt even the 6 speed CLS will be able to pull better numbers (maybe for the 1/4 mile but not sure).
Something tells me this is the same engine with the Maxima and I35 exactly and not 15HP detuned.

Sorta like the Camaro-Corvette "detuned" LS-1. Good theory. Sumhow i also doubt it could pull off such great times. Did Nissan make a new lightweight gearbox or somthing? Also how much did the tested car weigh?

Why do you doubt this. Motorweek is very conservative. They ran the Mustang Cobra next at 5.3 and 13.7 which is one of the slowest I have seen for the 2002 CObras.
Also the first mag that tested the Altima ran a torque steered 6.28 as they wrote.

All I have to say is.... NO FREAKIN' WAY!! Unless they have a helluva ringer. I've driven the new Altima V6 5spd. It is marginally faster than a CL-S if it's faster at all. 5.9? Sorry. Not gonna happen regularly. Was it -20 degrees out??

Yeah, that's obviously bullcrap. I drove the Nissan Altima 3.5 and THERE is no way it's a 5.9 sec car. I believe 6.3, but 5.9 is complete BS. Remember this too, that's a stick (5-Speed) ours are Auto's and keep right up.

Wow, such negative remarks from you always. So hard for you to believe? Sorry if they got that in there tests, that is what they got. So truth hurts, sorry to see that. Live with it. Maybe you can't drive the 5spd good enough since you are use to a auto, those drivers are good drivers, and can get the best out of the cars.

Woulda been cheaper too.
Ah well, it wasn't even a rumour back when I bought.
And I couldn't care less what times the Altima pulls - it's yucky inside. Same reason I don't care about the Imprezza WRX.

well i dont know about those numbers. i test drove an i35 and an altima this weekend. the i 35 was real quick, turned off the t/c and laid some awesome patch of rubber. good torque down low
the altima was a 6 with auto, not faster then my 99 max, about the same though. there are no 5 speeds in ny according to massapequa nissan. when one comes in i was promised a test.

It is sad but if you put about 1500 into the CL-S then you can easly match or beat those times.

I have a problem with everyone who is complaining about speed issues. What I don't understand is that if you are so nutz about having a fast car, why didn't you just buy a faster car to begin with. I traded in a 1997 30th anniversary Z28 that was an absolute monster, for my CLS. Now that car was running in the 4's to 60 and low 13's in the 1/4 mile. And yes I miss it but if that is what I still wanted, I would have kept it and killed this new altima. (At quite a discount in price from a CLS) So my point is if winning races is the only thing you are concerned with then you should sell your CLS's and buy a Z28/MUSTANG/S2000 etc.

It's too bad not a lot of MAx drivers are as good as the MT ones. BTW whats the new MPG on the 3.5 altima. And like Nova said they probably dropped that tach from 5k and up sometimes.

You just totally made my point! Why are people so concerned that the new Altima is faster? It is not in the same class as our Acura's. You don't hear Audi A8 owners complaining that CLS's are faster than thier cars. It is all relative. I am just saying that if everyone is so hard up about having the fastest car out there then they miss the point of owning a CLS. The Altima is crap so is the WRX but they are both faster. But certainly not as nice!

Yep, different horses for different courses. I bought my WRX for the power, handling, and yes, the scrappy interior & unrefined looks. The CL is the cush-o-car while the WRX is my autox/race car.
The 3.5SE Altima is a great deal for the $22k they want for it. I'm going to have to test drive one!

Was gonna keep out of this but I'd have to disagree with the comment that the Altima is crap. They are very good cars, moreso now that they are competitive with the Accord and Camry. They weren't designed to compete with the TLs and ES300's of the world. What they were designed to do was invigorate the 18-26K sedan class, which is exactly what it does.
