Headlight stolen!
Hi all,
I'm in the Boston area and I just had my HID bulbs and power supply stolen. Sorry to add that the final bill is near $2000 (and that's with little exterior damage).
Q1: can anyone comment on replacing the HID lights w/ regular lights?
Q2: does nayone know of an online retailer of Acura lights? I found one that sells the light assembly, but I also need the bulbs and power supply.
TIA,

By the way,Your name is totally whacked out -
you probably want to edit your profile.
Sorry to hear about your lights being stolen - we haven't had any reports of that in a while.
I highly doubt changing your lights to non-hid lights will help. The theives are going to see your car assume they are HID lights, and rip them out. It's not like they are going to check them first. (unless you make it something totally different).
'Sides, I believe most of the cost of repair is the junk around the light, not the light itself?

Well, regular lights would be cheaper to replace now (any maybe later).
The material cost for the bulbs and inverter is $750. The light assemblies are another $400. I could cut my bill in half by going for the regular lights.

Insurance doesn't pay the entire anount. I'm still out of the deductable.
If the replacement lights are cheap enough, I can always replace them later with the HIDs. Preferably once I get a garage for the car.

How much is your deductible? If the ded is $1000 and the hid is $2000 you pay only $1000. If the ded is $500, hid's will cost you $500. If the ded is $1000, and the regular lights cost you $500, you still pay $500. Pay the extra $500 and get hid's. Just my .02

One should be scared. My dealer has another car w/ the lights stolen and unlike my theft, they were very destructive - they basically crowbarred the lights out. The dealer also has a car w/ the seats ripped off.
The CL hood alarm is very easy to disable. Thiefs can reach in the front from the car bottom w/ a hook and pull the wires. Once the alarm is gone, the hood cable can be pulled w/ the same tool. I'm goin' to add a metal guard underneath hood pull cable. That way even if they hook the cable, they won't be able to pull it down.

If thieves get under the car and try to disconnect the battery and get into the car to open the hood, wouldn't a good hoodlock help? Also if the car was lowered, it should be more difficult.
