Have V-tec kick in earlyier?? More horseies?

If i regulate me V-tec to kick in earlyier will i get a boost in power in the low RPM's? or is it a waste of my time? If we get the x-tra kick like after 5-1/2k RPM could we do the same @ 2k RPM's???

I believe this is what the V-AFC is for. You can program the VTEC RPMS into it. It won't give you more HP... just gives it to you at an earlier RPM range. I just hope you're not worried about your gas mileage!!

If you think that lowering VTEC would be net more horses, then why Honda engineers did not do it?

Wait couple years, you will get a 320-330 HP 3.5L i-VTEC that does just that by itself.

What is I-Vtec? it will give you more low end torque... more info here:

Maybe b/c of fuel consumption.

Honda engineers know what they are doin wit that. It is my understanding that vtec just allows more exhuast gases out...apparently at any lower than the current rpm kick in for vtec there isnt enough exhaust made to make a difference. The only way i would see a v-afc to be usefull would be if your engine was boosted.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but SOHC VTEC in the V6 Accord, TL and CL only increases the lift and duration of the intake valves, and does not affect the exhaust valves at all.

Honda engineers didn't allow earlier engagement of VTEC for several reasons. The engine was designed to be a balance of power, economy, reliability, and driveability while still qualifying as a ultra low emissions vehicle (ULEV).

In an effort to extend automatic transmission life the engine will fall out of VTEC between gears. The timing MAP in the ECU also retards the timing to provide a smooth shift that won't place a hard load on clutch packs.

A gain in performance can be realized by activating VTEC earlier, but it requires trial and error to find what works best for your combination. Factors such as traction, increased induction/exhaust efficiency, increased torque converter stall speed, or a change to effective gear ratio (taller/shorter tire height) will all play a critical role in tuning.
