Happy with Comptech Springs ???

My rims are going on the car april 9th and I am still trying to decide if I should do the drop now or wait for a bit as I only have 36k on the stock shocks. But after reading all the post I am worried about the so called 4x4 look. How much more of a gap (over the stock setup) will there be with the setup I am going with:

18x7.5 offset +48 on 225/45-18 ?

If I do the drop soon after the rims get put on, I am leaning towards the comtech springs with the tokico shocks. Are you guys happy with your comptech springs? How does the overall drop look with the front being 1.5 inches and the rear being 1 inch? Any reason they wouldnt just do an even drop?

I better make sure that this is a new thread before I get bashed by all the know-it-alls calling me a dumb newbie. BTW, F.Y.

Back on topic:
You are gonna need some sort of a drop, I highly recommend Comptech.
I love my Comptech springs, I have had them for 3 years and they are holding up great.

Alot of people don't think they are low enough...but I like mine! Remember...the lower you go, the rougher the ride!

CT springs are the way to go. They give the car a subtle drop but its still enough that it makes it look so much better.

I heard that with the Tokico shocks my ride quality will be closest to stock. Is that not true? I do not want to feel every bump on the road, keep in mind I live in NY.

What is the difference between the Koni's and the Tokico's in terms of ride quality, handling and performance? Also how easy is it to adjust the settings on the Konigs?

I got both the CT sport springs and the sway bars and i love em...
I would suggest doing the sway bars at the same time to save some money on install later...

I don't like the raked look of CT. I chose H&R Sports/Bilstein Sports Combo. Sits more evenly, no rub, even with two people in the rear.

Looks like I am going to do the Comptech drop, most folks seem happy with it. Now I just need to decide on the Shocks. I think most of the guys on the forum have the springs on stock shocks. I was leaning toward the Tokicos because the ride quality was about the same as stock and the performance was a bit better. The Konigs are also quite a bit more than the Tokico's. ($275 vs. $150 a pair). I dont really need adjustable shocks.

I got the Bilsteins off a retailer for $430 shipped. You can find them on ebay (search under "accord 98-02" for reference) and Shox.com

Bilstein Shocks are the BEST non-adjustable shocks around, simply put... They are actually provide a tad bit better ride quality than stock but perform on par with Koni adjustables (I had both).

As far as putting them on stock shocks, they will evetually blow and don't provide a nice ride quality, so save $200 down the road and get new shocks now. I'm putting up a DIY soon, so you can probably do them yourself if you decide to keep the stockies.

I have the exact combo your talking about. CT springs\tokico HP shocks. Very happy with the combo. Like you said, not koni yellow stiff but not stock softness either. Good compromise of performance and comfort. Unless you have long smooth roads and love to whip through turns, I dont think the koni's are necessary .. especially with NY roads any other questions about the suspension you can PM me

Has anyone put a heavy subwoofer system in their trunk with a Comptech/Bilstein-Tokico-Koni setup? I wonder if the raked look would go away with some weight in the trunk. I almost never have people in the back seat, so thats not an issue.

I have a CT drop with stock shocks. I have 2 10's in the back and the car sits lower in the front still. Do shocks lower the car any? I liked the look of the H&R springs better than my CT. How much do u think i could get for used CT springs?

Thanks guys, just placed orders for CT springs and Tokico HP shocks. I will probably have them installed soon after I put the rims on.

Thanks for all the help. I will post pics as soon as I can.

Konis have 5 perches, so if you put it on the lowest perch it should drop your car a 1/4 inch more or so......

I have Comptechs also on stock shocks, and I went with majority opinion and bought Comptechs. The consensus is that they are not low enough and give a subtle drop, but I disagree.

The front of mine are pretty damn low, and the back is not low enough. The back passenger side almost looks stock, and there is a noticable difference between the two rears' heights.

This makes the raked look too extreme. I'd like a more even look. Maybe the guy who installed them didn't do it properly.

I really want to see the car and drive it with just the rims and tires(4/9) and then i am planning on getting the springs and shocks installed on 4/12. This way I can actually feel and see the difference. The other reason is that the installer I had the wheels and tires delivered too does not install springs and shocks that he does not sell, resulting in my having to go to another mechanic. I will see what I can do to have everything done on the 9th. If I can not get it done at the same time, I will probably hold off on the alignment after the wheel/tire install and then get it done with the spring/shock install. Any idea what a good price for springs/struts install should cost?

Thanks
