So if someone rearends you, what are you gonna do? Wait till they leave then rearend them? What if they rape your girlfriend, you gonna return the favor?
Do you not even see your lack of logic? If he damaged your car then call the police and file a report. Make him pay to have it repaired. I dont see how putting a big x on the side of an old minivan that you will never see again, then staring at the scratch in the side of your car every day until YOU pay to fix it is better than stopping the guy or calling the police and filing a report and getting him to pay. If this van was really a POS, then making him pay to have your car fixed will hurt him alot more than another scratch in on his car. The way I see it, all we have now is two more assholes in the world with scratches on their cars.

i actually just went outside and checked my car over, there is a scratch about 2 inch wide on the side. what i did was a lot more civil than starting a fight with a man twice my age, its not about being a coward its about being smart. im not about to get expelled from college because some fuck who scratched my car. so anyone calling me a cowardly punk can go put themselves in my position, and tell me exactly what they would do, because i was not about to fight someone over a scratch, there are bigger problems in the world. so if i can even up the score with him by putting my own scratch, thats what hes gonna get. period

Look, the guy made was wrong for banging into your door and you were wrong for putting a big "X" on his. Two wrongs do not make a right. But the important thing here is that you realize this was the wrong thing to do and you find alternative ways of dealing with this type of situation in the future.
For the record, I am 25 and if someone dinged my door, I would approach them first and if they didn't respond or offer to fix the damage, then I would just wait for them to get done whatever it was they were doing, follow them home, casually get out of my car and yell at them "Now I know where you live f*er!!!"

Everyone does stupid things...I've done them...but then you can't judge people for their actions at the moment. I agree that he should have called the police...filed a report..and then say that he left the scene of the accident too. His insurance would pay...and money heals all physical wounds...even on the CL...

How will calling the police resolve this issue?
Unless this was major damage, the police wont even bother coming probably. Insurance wont pay for the damage if its minor since you likely have a deductible so if someone hits your door and its just a ding you are SOL. In this case, if the guy in the van was careless and most of those people that ding your doors usually are, then silverstreak had to really confront him if there was damage and point out the damage to him. While scratching his car is an alternative, it really wont teach the guy a lesson because he probably has no idea what he did wrong and he is somewhere out there bitching about some punk scratching his car.

Far from me to be a critic because I have a lousy temper. But if this ever happens again you should just approach the person and call the police. Generally someone driving a shit box does not usually have insurance and alot of times a they don't have a license either. It would have been great to see a stroke like that get carted of to jail and have to spend the night getting his buns rubbed by Lester the axe murderer. Thats sweet revenge my friend.

I agree with Big Pimp Type S. The cops probably wouldn't have done a damn thing about it. Silver Streak just reacted in his own way. He is still young just like i am and when we are young sometimes we do stupid things. Everyone has been there at one time or another.I know i have messed up more then enough times. Im not saying what he did was stupid. It may not have been the best route to take but what else was he gonna do? beat the hell out of a 35 year old man? I know when something happens to my car i get PISSED. He did what he felt he had to do. So let it be. JMO.

The cops would come...and if they didn't...you needed to go get yourself a cheap camera and take pictures right away...that way...HIS INSURANCE IS FORCED TO PAY FOR YOUR DAMAGE. Your deductible is there if you fuck up...or the fucker takes off...

Best tip I once read was on the miata net. Some guy said he carries toothpicks in his car and sticks them in the keyhole and breaks it off so the guy can't get in his car. That way you've gotten back and haven't really caused any damage. Just convenienced the hell out of them.

I still have not set up AIM on my new laptop.
Yeah, I guess it is true that the deductible is there only if you f up, however its such a pain in the ass to prove anything to the insurance company, especially over something as small as this. Because while insurance will right you a check for the damage, they have to go after the other guys insurance company to get that money, might not be worth it for anyone in such a case.

We all make mistakes, and I have made plenty of them, but I dont intentionally damage someone elses property because I dont know how to handle a situation, then go to a message board full of people who would be PISSED if he did that to us and brag about it.
