Grille painting/re-enforcing

So I bought the ebay grille maybe 8ish months ago and from the beginning there was a lil crack in the top left corner. Note I never did paint it, just slapped it on the car... has been looking good all things considered the whole time. but today I took it off, noticed that the mount on the right side had been ripped apart. Which is also why it was offset slightly. SO I took the grille off an hour ago.

Went to Canadian tire and got me some JB weld and I coated the entire front of the grille (where the paint chips) so now when I paint it it will not chip.

Used the JB weld to re make the mount that ripped apart. I am using paper to keep the forum/shape that I need. and re-adjust it every 20 mins when it starts to drip.. and in an hour or 2 it'll be sweet.

Yea.. but the back tabs at the top seem to be under a lot of stress which is why the one snapped off basically. oh well.. The JB weld will do just fine. I checked everything now that it's fairly dry, put it on the car and it's gonna do just fine for what I need.

I'm gonna take my time on this tho. tomorrow I'll paint, and friday I'll install again once it's all perfect. I'm gonna clear coat it too

Why wet sand between every coat ?
If preped right you should only have to wet sand the clear.

^^ painting outside in the wind... doesn't help lol. so dust lil speck kept coming onto the paint and slowly but surely i'd work less and less of them out till it's near mint. And i am no pro at preping this fiberglass w/e grill.

annn now i clear coated it :-) sexy.

i'd say it's a 9/10... definitely no perfect 10.. i this was my first attempt at something like this

4 hours roughly from start to finish... of working on it.

I think it's worth it.. we'll see... the test of time will tell

grinded down the mount I made so now it sits 100% flush. also needed to slightly bend the inside top metal tabs on the hood where you screw through to the grill. (so there is no un-needed pressure).

BUT when I was putting it on I pressed on the grill SO now i got fingerprints on my grille.

GOTTA re-sand the bitch down and do her once and for all and wait this time so I don't screw it up again. :-(

being an impatient painter never helps

installed on the car just now!

as for the hood latch if u get on ur knees and look up ull see this

For those who do not have the ebay grill I had to cut out the main section of the hood support in the middle where the A symbol is. I clean all that up real nice to make it look like it hadn't been grinded heavily.

Looks nice. You should put the "A" emblem on the outside of the grill though....

Props. I've done the grills before outside and it's a beotch!

Came out good and you took time to wet sand between coats which looked like it paid off.
