Got a price quote for install of headers/icebox/springs/sways, was outrageous!

Was at Pohanka Acura today looking at RSX Type-S's with a friend of mine, so I decided to stop in to ask how much it would cost to install headers, springs, sways, and an icebox. The price I was quoted was outrageous! ... $980 for the install! The mechanic said it would take 1.5 Hours per spring, 1.5 hours for the sways, 1 hour per header (there's a front and rear header pipe) and about 1.5 hours for the icebox ...

Does this sound right to you or is his off the top of his head estimate really off?

Is there anywhere else I can take it that would cost less? I'm thinking about calling them back up and talking to Jerry Soriano since I heard he has been giving lower price quotes, but that still sounds crazy to me.

for 4 hrs you can drop a whole engine to the floor and another 4 hrs to put one back... Acura only credit 4 hrs for such work!!!

So that is total BS!

I agree to a point, but 980 still sounds a bit high.

Headers, Springs & Sways would be 600 in labor at Park Avenue.
It’s not on their price sheet yet, but I can’t imagine the Icebox would be more then 50 additional.

Headers = $255.00
Springs = $ 255.00
Sways = $ 90.00

Unless my calculator is broke, that's 600

pohanka quoted my brother just under $1000 for his springs to be installed when he asked them about a year and a half ago. we decided to try and put them on ourselves, and since then we've installed everything else on our cars.

I have my own -- Always re-torque your lugs after a rotation and balance.

That is a bit high IMO. I had my springs and sways done for $400 labor. The headers only take 1 hour total to do, and the icebox takes about 2 hours. I would think that around $700-$800 is more like it. You ARE having a lot done and it will take a big chunk of time. They are quoting you times "by the book". You might be able to talk them down.

you might have that backwards. I helped Smitty do his headers...there is absolutely no way you can unbolt the old heads and throw on the CTs in an hour. And we were using air compression tools the entire time.

Try Chevy Chase Acura. They are new, opened about a year ago. They will install Headers for $180. I cant say anything about ther service staff, never used them. I always go to Rosenthal, they wont touch aftermarket stuff so forget them.

Well, he didn’t say he was getting the Exhaust and I forgot the Alignment so we were BOTH wrong.

$500 is roughly what I was expecting to pay for installation. So that sounds pretty reasonable ... Close to $1000 sounded a little bit expensive. And I don't mind doing the intake myself, but I thought it might be easy for them to do while they have the car apart already for the headers.

I'll have to call and talk to Jerry Soriano and see what he has to say. I appreciate everyone's help, the information has been really useful!!!!
