Got my first blast of Laser on V1

it was not too far from where i got nailed just 3 weeks ago supposedly doin 87 in a 55 (yeah 87 in the right lane keeping up with traffic)

anyways, this was a Nassau County Highway Patrol, which was a little surprising since they usually just do radar...the highway where this happened had a 1/2 mile long ungulation or dip, and the smokey was on the upslope of the dip...he was in plain sight with plenty of time to brake...he was parked perpendicular to the highway (basically sideways)...so as i approached the upslope, i slowed to 60, flowing with traffic, which was rather light...BAM!!! V1 starts goin schizo with those 3 slashes in the number display...since i was already slowed, i just kept cruise control goin...as i was passing the smokey, the glare from the sky cleared to reveal him pointing the gun from inside the car with the windows CLOSED...felt a bit releaved b/c cops usually hang out there just to slow traffic, not gun them, so people keep up their 65MPH speeds

my question is how can the cop distinguish with the naked eye who's going faster when u have 1 car doin 65 and the car right behind him doin 70 in the process of changing lanes or something?? if u had the amount of traffic i had, u could prob tell, but if it's more crowded, isn't there a good chance the cop will catch the wrong guy???

That sound scares the PISS out of you the first time it happens, doesn’t it?
Especially if the volume is CRANKED up.

I believe the LASER units have a scope device like a rifle.
They look through that and can easily pick their “bogey” out of traffic with the bullseye.

The “window was closed” thing is kind of strange though.
I didn’t think LASER worked that way.

Glass may reflect of refract the beam of light... I'd be surprised if the window was up and the trooper was using laser.

I could be wrong though...

so this is what laser is? i sometimes see a cop parked sideways with the door open, standing and holding some device like a rifle pointing off into the distance. i've only seen this in high traffic areas. it's pretty scary when you see them using this!

Drive behind a new 2003 Chevy Blazer, when they hit their breaks your detector will go off. Pretty cool, I call the new Blazer my Lazer tester.

hehe

go to Best Buy and park outside the front door...V1 will go bonkers between bands, then stop...then go bonkers again...then stop...kinda freaky!!

i'd imagine the Escort readout of frequencies will go nuts too

Sound like your Troppers have the new lidar guns which work thru glass. So sorry to hear that. Makes since since you've never seen them use laser before that they have the new ones.

Cops in CT can not issue tickets past 800' because the spread becomes to large to be certain the car targeted is the car giving the reading. It's a great argument in court if you can prove he hit you past that.

It's an Infrared laser in the gun. Just go aim one of your TV remotes at it from inside the car...

Might have to be a lil close depending on the area in band the IR remote uses.

Ok, it going to depend on the type of laser gun. Aparently the newest lasers do work through the glass. This is what I've learned after doing more research. Not surprising.

I'm going to still maintain that they do not yet have a way to implement moving laser.

LIE, around exit 46/47, just before Huntington, heading eastbound

they more often than not chill, but they just sit and watch...i'd say 6 out of 10 times they'll b there...if they wanted, they could hide much better by backing up another 30 feet

Correct. New lidar units will work through windows. The same improvement that allows them to operate better in the rain now allows them to shoot through glass. And currently there is no lidar unit that can work in a moving mode, and it is doubtful one will be put into service in the near future. Eventually maybe, but for the foreseeable future lidar traps will be stationary.

you mean the Chevy Trailblazer? i get it all the time, it sucks when youre stuck behind one in stop and go traffic, everytime the car stops the parking distance lazers on the bumper start up and the V1 goes ape shit. it gets hella annoying after a while.

Actually, it’s the NEON center brake light on the Chevy that is setting off the LASER sensor of the V1.

Mike Valentine says this can’t be filtered out without compromising the police laser detection.
