Got challenged again

This time a guy from my school with a 1990 Trans Am. He was like wanna race? I was like I'm not that crazy in this kind of weather. I replied saying that maybe in the spring and then he was like thats good than cause by that time he's gonna have a 357 Short throw shifter with headers. From the sound of the mods I think I'm gonna probably get owned. Please give me some opinions on this thanx.

if he actually said "357 short throw shifter with headers" then you'll probably whoop his ass. he probably has no idea what he's talking about and is just like a friend of mine who has a Lancer and keeps saying he's gonna mod it to shit and make it all fast, and still is completely stock + rebuilt tranny.

well the car is between 1990 to 92 and it doesn't look like the Iroc from the physical appearance of the car. Cause I know the iroc has that different type of hood and the front is a little bit more aggressive. The challengers trans am looks like this: Except that the challengers car has four different colors. lol

I heard that before, funny as hell. But really, an IROC can be quick, I believe they run 14's stock. Don't remember the specs completely. But the other models from what I've heard from other racers, aren't all that fast. I forget what sites this was from.

yeah, I'm sure they can be quick, but when you said "is it an Iroc" I just had to put something about that.

you should be able to take him though. do you have a P or an S?

You should be able to take him that generation was pretty badly built. If I'm not mistaken I thought the IROC was a beefed up Z-28 Camaro.

a 90 TA would be a 5.0 tpi (225/300) or 5.7 (235/330) tpi. If a 5.0, and a 5 spd which is what it sounds like by your friend getting a shifter. Low to mid 14s at mid to upper 90s. Enough for a type S. Esp if he has headers.

However, that's a good running, well tuned 90 TA; not the kind of car most young kids are driving these days. If I were betting it's got 99k on the odo, a wicked loud exhaust, low compression on #6, O2 sensors never changed, a fuel filter filled with crap and about 180 of the original 225 checking in...and probably a win for you.

Race him....it's all in good fun. I've NEVER heard of a 357 short throw shifter......maybe he meant he has a short throw shifter and a .357 magnum that he'd shoot you with if you won. Most likely it's got nothing done to it, it's old and tired and you probably won't have any problem w/ taking him.
