I’m no expert, but I would think a box would be stronger then the floor of the spare tire well.

agreed, i dont see how it could be as air tight as a box. and the space in the spare tire area is not that big, so not alot of thump.

Nice meeting you and synth19 today. It could be a pretty good setup. It depends, on how much airspace the subs have. A lot of people won SQ competitions with similar setups like that.

a board slapped on top of the metal floor is not good. but if done right, fiberglass mold of well with proper sealing, then it's as good with better aesthetics and more creativity. this type of setup is not utilized if there was not enough airspace...so those 3 subs should be getting what they need (albeit a little smaller is ok since the airspace is common).

Should be MDF reinforced fibreglass for perfection. Proper loading of the JL's is most important...
