I loved, and still truly miss my CL S but this is truly scary. + What I have hard from others, where do they come up with this information?? The one mark against my CL was the transmission

The best thing about my CL IS the transmission.
Don't quite get why GM is commenting on how good Honda engines are unless they use them, which I think they do, it's a marketing ploy mostly by GM.

With the automatic tranny problems our cars experience aside, the result of that study was already engraved in my mind. I personally believe that Honda & Toyota make the most reliable powertrains! GM might not have many failures per 100 cars in the first 90 days, but what about in the first 9 years? They're ages behind the japs!

Any data, facts, or examples to support your conclusion?

I'd always hear/felt that GM made really good automatic trannies and that the Japanese are still learning how. The Jp have not been making cars that long and came from mostly building manual shifters.
Honda excels at both engines and manual shifters, that's mainly why I've stayed with Honda/Acura for my past 5 cars.

Nah not really, just personal opinion, influenced by common knowledge and experience with my current & previous cars, and the current & previous cars of my relatives, friends and acquaintances. Which I guess doesn't count, since it's not statistically proven. But hey, it's just my personal opinion!

I did beat the hell out of my 2000 Civic DX when it was new, and never had a single problem with it. Dealer replaced a 3rd gear syncro for free under warranty, but given the amount of times I powershifted that car from 1st to 2nd, 2nd to 3rd, and 3rd to 4th, I pretty much concluded that its drivetrain was bulletproof (at least in near-stock form).
