glass polish for front windshield.

I live 1 block from the beach, and i have noticed that when fine sand gets on the front windshield it is starting to cause very fine scratches on the glass from the windshield wiper.

Is there a product someone can recommend to take them out.

Thanks

I hate the way the washer automatically starts the wipers before there is any solvent on the windshield. My windshield has wiper scratches too but it's from the dry wipes that happen when you use the washer.

More options and links...

If really messed:

Glass Polishing Kit Pro

This kit can be used to clear off years of wiper haze from your windshield and save hundreds of dollars in replacement costs. Ideal for hard-to-find windshields on older cars. Try this test: Run your fingernail over the damaged area on your windshield. If nail doesn't catch this kit will work. If your nail does catch try the Deep Scratch Kit (40030). Mark the damaged area mix the special Glass Polishing Compound with water, attach polishing buff to your drill or low speed polisher (1,500 rpm), and start polishing! Includes: 1/4 adapter, 1 lb Glass Polishing Compound, 2 7/8" x 1" Thick Buffing Wheel.

AND, if not too messed, this will take care of small scratches and pits:

Diamondite Glass Cleaning System

Smooth as Glass? Maybe not. Even new glass has some surface roughness - older windshields, damaged by road debris and acid rain are rougher still. See how clean your glass can be with this 3-step aerosol Diamondite System. Glass and Surface Cleaner (40060Z) reaches trapped debris that regular cleaners leave behind. Spray Clay (40058Z) is used with the (40059) Scrubbing Sponge to remove stains, embedded dirt, tar, resin and acid rain spots. Glass really shines when the Shield (40061Z) is applied. All products mentioned above are included in this kit.
The shield is the stuff I use as a protectant. I also used it on my wife's car to "clean-up" some very tiny pits and scratches. It doesn't remove them, it just puts a "film" over the windshield that: a) protects it and b) fills/covers small pits and scratches. WARNING: it will only cover the smaller stuff.

Try the Zaino polish if you can. If that won't take care of your scratches, try the Eastwood kit and/or find some Cerium Oxide.

Finally, I have no experience with this product, but I wonder if someone knows more about it. Perhaps a look over at www.autopia.org will give you more suggestions and they can comment on this (see link): http://www.scratchpolish.com/how_it_works.htm. It looks interesting, but...

YMMV

Once again thanks Eric,

The only way i can describe the fine scratches is if you look at them thru direct light or sun, you cant even feel them when you touch the glass, more like swirl scratches, the problem is the wiper catches the sand and wipes the sand the full range of the wiper on the windshield on both sides.

I'm just looking for a simple product that is easy to use and is not going to mess the glass up any more.

I will probably just give Zaino glass polish a try and see what happens.

Let me know what works for you.

The Zaino Z2/Z5 can offer some protection and so can the Diamondite shield...

haven't had any experience w/the polishes so dunno how involved they are to apply, but if the scratches are really fine a double application of rain-x may be an okay quick fix. it won't be permanent but it's quick to put on, and you will need to use your wipers (source of the problem) less.
