gas?
#4
I started a thread a while ago (the last time gas prices went up) and I put Shell 87 at my mileage went from 30-33mpg! The next tank with another brand and it dropped to 27 and felt sluggish. Went back to premium after that. If you dont drive hard it will be fine. If you enjoy your car's power often, stick with Premium. Remember, the computer will adjust the timing for lesser grade fuel so there will be slightly less power. At light throttle you may nto notice but anything from half throttle above, there will be some reduction in response.

With a difference of 20 cents per gallon between 87 and 93, and with 15 gallons every 7 days, that will give me savings of 3 dollars per week.
Just deduct those 3 dollars from other non-important expenses (like lunchs?) and you will break even.

I'm with beetroot.
When 87 octane went up to $2.09 and premium was $2.40 I started putting in 87.
Call me a cheap bastard but every penny counts. Oh please don't let me hear the stupid argument that, " you spent 30K on a car and you cant afford premium?" Some of us didn't spend 30K on our acura![Roll Eyes](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif)
I'm going to be adding a supercharger soon and when I do you can bet I won't be putting 87 octane in my forced induction car.

I've talked to friends about gas prices. Naturally everyone is heated because it's so damn expensive. Then these threads pop up here about people putting in 87 instead of 91/93 to "save money".
This is funny to me because people will do this, but then turn around and not even think twice about blowing $20 at the movies or $30 at a restaurant or a bar. If you've ordered take-out or pizza a couple times this month you've probably eclipsed your so-called "gas savings". I knew guys in college who used to bitch and moan every time they had to pony up for something like books or a lab kit, but yet always seemed to have plenty of cash for beer on friday nights.
Unless you're doing everything possible in order to save money, i.e. clipping coupons, buying generic cereal, and eating top ramon for almost every meal, you might as well just go back to putting in premium. Otherwise you should just come to the realization that you're probably hemoragging cash in some of those more mundane things in life that you never think about.
But whatever - your car, your life. Just something to think about.

Once I pumped a cheap crap no name gas.. a full tank was gone in just like 200 miles. I can average at least 330-360 miles. I never repeated that mistake. I had to use couple FI cleaner to get clean that crap...
Not only I pump exlusively 93 Oct but from good name brand.. The best value in town are Cumberland Farms (Gulf), then Hess.
Mobil and shell are at least 10-15 cent more /Gal
