Fuel Injected vs. Carbed?

Why is it that after say (ex.) 350hp we might need to change our fuel pumps to a higher more powerful fuel pump, when our fuel psi is somewhere in the means of 40+psi. But the carborated old mussle cars are at like 8-10psi and pushing more power.

What I'm saying is since we are FI and have more psi, shouldn't we be able to produce more power than a carbed engine, without having to upgrade our fuel pumps?

more fuel pressure does not mean more fuel than a carbed big block

Edit: i dont realy know what your are asking and my answer doesnt make any sense

Well what I'm saying is that since we produce more fuel psi because we are FI. Why can't we throw on more power adders before we have to upgrade our fuel systems to accomidate teh more power.

Hypothetical Ex. Carborated cars have to up grade thier fuel management system after sayyyyy 200hp over stock.
While we have to upgrade ours after only 100ph over stock.

I mean we have higher fuel pressure than a carborated car 4X as much so we sould be able to throw on more power adders than a carborated car without having to even think about upgrading our FMS.

Fuel pressure doesn't equal amount of fuel. Kinda like how you can have very high water pressure, but a thin stream of it. Or you can get Niagra falls, which doesn't have a lot of pressure, but has a lot of water. FI is more efficient because of this better controll of fuel. The more powerfull pump is just to send more fuel, and a required pressure. BTW, this is just my logical guess on it.

Because Carbed engines take in fuel with the natural vaccum that engines produce when the piston moves up and down the engine block...so if you add a bunch of horsepower mods, the engine itself will according suck in that much more fuel because the vacuums get stronger as the engine is running stronger, that is why people said not to press the gas pedal when the car is not running back in the days, because it opens up the carb and unburned fuel gets trapped in the engine...anyways carb engines have their limits also, so you eventually gotta upgrade, but fuel injections are made so that they are more efficient and is controlled by the ecu to give just enough gas, but this is all programmed within the stock car's abilities, thus you gotta get an upgrade when you modify performance parts, because it has the values of the factory parts....

Hope that helped...

Red Nj-s,

Cool bro tnx. Ur analogy really cleared things up, alot. Very helpful.

Tnx Again.

SinnedTL,

Ur thurough explination of the way carborated engines work was very insightful. Tnx.

Tnx guys u cleared everything up for me.
