again, you cannot compare two DIFFERENT tires...they all have different compounds, contact patch, and operating temperature...reason you're not getting traction is because your stock tires simply suck...it won't help if they are bald or not...but it doesn't change the fact that a bald tire is better

again, since the two tires are the same, they are composed of the same compound..so regardless of whether it is brand new or bald, they have the same compound and material...so the only thing different would be contact patch

so between those two tires, which one has a larger contact patch? the "bald" one because all the patterns of tread from the first one takes away surface area of the tire..more surface area = larger contact area = more grip

remember, just because a tire is bald doesn't mean it loses grip

a 1/4 inch decrease in radius of a tire gives it a lower profile which gives it less room to "wiggle" and keeps the tire from losing it's shape

a 1/4 inch decrease in radius is a 1/2 inch in diameter...it leads to a lighter tire, a shorter tire, less weight away from the center of the wheel

most competitition tires perform better when shaved..that's why tire rack provides these services...the only street tire I know of that has a different compound underneath is the khumo mx and the falken azenis fk115 (i know i messed up that model number lol)
