Friend got T-Boned today

A girl ran a red light today and Tboned my friend's 01 CLS. What I don't understand is why the side airbags did not deploy. It was hit pretty hard and basically destroyed the passenger door. Also, the wheels are pointing in different directions, which seems to me that the tie rods or rack & pinion is screwed up. They had to use the jaws of life to get his wife out of the car...she is fine...a little sore, but fine.

Ouch. I'm glad to here she's ok. Good question on those side impact bags though. Why couldn't she climb out the driver's side of the car?

Her neck was hurting and the paramedics didn't want to move her until she was stablized.

Probably why the air bag didn't go off. Looks like there is only damage to the door skin, and I think the air bag sensor is located further inside the door

Your have a point. The actual door doesn't seem to be pushed into the car enough to trigger the side air bags.

Was there anything on the seat at the time? If something shifted in the seat the airbag would be disabled if the sensor detected an unusual object.

Glad your friend is ok though.

that and by the overall damage it doesnt look like the impact was severe enough to cause them to go off

The other car was going about 30-35 mph, but was a pretty small car. He just got the estimate back today, $12,000 damage...it's totaled. I think he's going to get a new RL.
