freakin paint chips!

man, this sux...I was washing my car today, and I noticed like 3-4 small paint chips on my bumper, it's not that noticable, but it's really annoying. For those of you who have used the touch up paint, how does it look after application? Is there any technique to make it look as smooth as original? thanks

Dayumn, that sucks... I had a scare this weekend too.. Thought I had a chip 'till I notice that the automatic washing rags just grazed the side door a bit to rough. You should get the stuff that is "Seen On TV"...It supposedly is way better then the stuff you get at a local store... Where 'bout in Chicago are you? You should definately get a bra...Look at my sig.. No chips in da front bumper :-).. And make sure you park away from a lotta tight fits in da parking lot.. I noticed that the wind this past weekend was blowing plp's doors open when they climed in and out their cars.. Saw a lot of neighboring doors being banged cuz of this... Steer far from tight fittings guy it's worth taking the extra steps to the front door..

I am fed up with this paint horror. I just stopped freakin out about it. I had a ding on my trunk lid, passanger door. paid $130 to fix it. Yesterday I noticed I got another new ding with 2 scratches... sucks big time, huh. I tried to polish it out, 1 small scrath was removed the other did not. Of course the ding is there, the irony it is in the almost the same place as the one removed 2-3 months ago!

I will stop looking for a while. In 2-3 years if the paint loook too bad. I may pay $500 and get new black coat baby, this time done nicely, not that kind of Bull Shit from Acura, Comm'on Acura, 1-step coat.....!

I have a white car. When I get a chip its black underneath so it's obvious. I don't remember where (Edmunds?), but the best advice I got regarding touchup paint is to use something very small, like a toothpick, to apply the paint, thin layer by thin layer. Clean the area with alcohol and then put down a layer of paint. Let dry. Do it again if necessary. Then wax.

Can the painted spots be noticed easily? Nup. At least not on a white.

Good luck …

I'm actually in Addison IL (western sub), the paint chips are actually located in the front bumper, no dings or anything like that on the sides... I NEVER park next to any cars at work or when I go out, and if I do park next to a car (in the worst case sceanario), I make sure the car next to me is as nice as my CL. hehe..

I guess I shouldnt sweat the paint chips, it's inevitable. I dont want to put a bra on the car either, I personally dont like that look with a silver car (too much contrast). I'm sure it looks better on a black car.

thanks

They do suck don't they??!! First one hurts the most. If you are patient (as I am not!), apply touch up paint and allow it to harden thoroughly. Then, wet sand it with #2000 paper, CAREFULLY, bringing the touch up paint area (which will be a little higher and bumpier) level with the car's finish. Finally, use polishing compound to remove any fine scratches made by oversanding the area and to finish smoothing the area out. That works about the best, but you have to be REALLY careful not to sand too hard. Patience!!!!

Actually it says and so on after two coats. Does anyone know how many layers of paint they put on the CL-S?

"What follows is a complex procedure of applying a layer of paint, baking it in a low temperature oven, washing, drying, more paint, another session in the oven and so on."

Both the TL & CL have a 2-coat, 1-bake paint process.

The MDX has a 5-coat, 4-bake process...

And the RL has a 4-coat, 4-bake paint process.

this is all rather pathetic considering Mercedes has a 8-coat, 8-bake paint process.

and BMW has something like 7 coats.

The MDX is the only Acura with a exceptable paint process.

Even ignoring the paint process... the paint itself is pretty shitty on Acuras. I think Acura has one of the most un-pure black paints I've ever seen... nothing like the deep dark super black of Lexus.

it appears, according to the acura website, that all acuras have at least 2 bakes, and 2 color coats, in addition to the clear.

wish they'd be a little more specific, though
