Ford to market Jaguar to gay consumers
#41
bahahaha this is some real funny stuff
you know what though, i'd be glad if ford does this...im sure the depreciation will be enough for me to buy a nice used jag...
hey, if it a supercharged xjR sport or sedan, and i CAN buy it, i dont even care if its considered gay
...not that there is anything wrong with that

Jag picked thier "fight"...I am on the side of them making a "mistake". Whether you or I are homophobic isn't the problem. CNN carried this...it is Jags problem that so many people in this country ARE homophobic. They were right to focus on a (gay) magazine.....but they got mega press.
Jag hired a company to target a group (ignorantly I think after READING the press release...read it!!! "rich" "expendable income"...etc...)...I think Jag will feel the sales loss...sadly.
How many of "us" could have written a GAY friendly ad. Chr!st...the "gays" that I know like most of the same sh!t that I do!!! ACK! I assume that we (!?) could have played Jags game...ever "that" way."....
(I love Macs, and they never "sold out!")...I can live with <10% of the computer pop... Apple aims at the regular guy in their "switch" ad...How many win-blows people are thinking about switching vs. people that are thinking of forking over X amount of $$$.
This all screams stereotype and that kills me....especially when companies think thenk they they can FIGHT stereotype for $$$ gain...
(anyone listen to Marillion?)

Plenty of car companies know that many of their customers have good taste and money and are gay too. Hate or Ignorance and insecurity - get over it.

jagfag sounds funny still
there goes any chance of me ever owning a jag.
smart move by jag, once the HIV kills the homo, jag gets the car back without having to give back the lease deposit and sells to a next homo..

You guys can say what you want...
Look at the Aston Martin Vanquish:
"With 460 bhp on tap from its 6.0-litre V12, the Vanquish is one of the most - if not the most - powerful production cars in the world. Aston Martin claims a top speed in excess of 190 mph and, driven hard, the car will run from 0-60 mph in under 4.5 seconds. "
What about the XKR...
"Its 4.0-liter V-8 boasts a 90-degree, aluminum cylinder block and aluminum heads. Nestled between those heads is a belt-driven, Roots-type blower that provides instantaneous throttle response, the sort that makes one grateful for solidly anchored teeth. The heads have dual overhead cams and 32 valves, and hold perfectly square (bore and stroke) 3.39-inch cylinders. The cams run in a fixed phase to generate a lot of low-end torque, which peaks at 387 lb-ft at 3600 rpm. Jaguar notes that at 1600 rpm this arrangement provides more power than does the XK8’s unblown mill running at full song. The compression is still a conservative 9.0:1; ignition and fuel injection are fully electronic. The 370 hp is 80 more than that found in the base engine."
The XJR, a slightly more "refined" ride, is right there too... showing mid 13s at the 1/4 mile.
I don't care if they screwed up with some half-baked marketing scheme... I'd give my left nut for one of these cars. Hell, for the Vanquish, I'd even take it in the @$$

Now I do agree that I may not want to buy a jag in the future, but let's think about this. Many here keep saying Jag will lose their straight customers and people wouldn't want to be seen as a JagFag. I agree w/ most of u, but do u really think Jag didn't look in to this? Now of course w/ everything, there is a risk; but this is such an obvious risk, they would have to be fools to pull something like this off w/ out having a plan. Jag's advertising company knows much more on this topic then a bunch of guys on an Acura forum. They have a way to subtly market it towards gays. Afterall, I would not question seeing the ad described in my weekly Time or even my C&D. So what if the same ad is in a magazine read by gays? Now, if the ad featured a shirtless man in a thong, lying on an XKR that would be a different story. Just remember guys, the advertising firm knows what the obvious problems could be (as stated by u guys) and also knows what they are doing. Don't worry.....now to help them out....don't S-tereo-TYPE the next guy u see driving an S-type.

While I won't run out and buy a jag (because I hate Ford) I really hope you guys are kidding with your comments--because just reading through them the narrow-mindedness makes you come across as really stupid.
Would you really dump your car and take the loss on loan-to-value if you see two guys riding in the same car?
I've seen gay people (with those rainbow triangles on their cars) drive just about every type of car or truck on the road.
I guess a lot of you will be riding the bus then!

This mess will all blow over (no pun intended), and since most of us don't read gay magz, you aren't going to think about it all that much. I think it makes some sense for jag to take this risk, why not try to find a niche market, especially one that typically values branding. Unless you live in a predominately gay area (which I do in midtown Atlanta), you probably won't notice that jags are all driven by gays in the future, mainly because a majority of customers will still be older & wealthy whites. That said, some of the comments have been pretty amusing, I went through all 4 pages on a 56k!
