flickering headlights??

Lately I've been running on just my driver side's headlight and havent gotten the chance to change out my passneger side bulb yet. However, it's really weird because if I were to go over a speedbump, the lights would flicker and it would turn on (i can tell from my reflection off someone elses bumper). But If i were to go over another speed bump or accelerate really fast, it would go out again.

Also, It seems as though the passenger headlight would be off for the first 15 minutes of driving but if I were to turn it off and on again, it would come on.. inputs anyone??

Likely a bad ballast & not the bulbs.

Switch the driver's headlight bulb with the passengers then you will know what the problem is. If it doesnt do it anymore then its the bulb. If it still does then its the ballast.

My A6 had the exact same problem, I thought it was a bad ballast but upon closer looking I saw one of the wires had a bit of a splice in it. Got some electrical tape and it hasn't screwed around since.

hehe, i would purposely hop speed bumps at 30mph just to get it back on and then 30 seconds later... yea..

so i guess not loose connectors/wires? it's def. the ballast right?

IT sounds exactly like the ballast prob. But as these guys suggested check the connections, switch the bulbs, check the relay (fuse box cover tells you which one is for headlights) JUST for precaution. It may be possible to save yourself money so start at the bottom and if/when it turns out to be the ballast go from there. Oh and dont get the OEM ballast bro. $400+ down the drain and even ebay ones are like $200+ just go aftermarket. i got mine for $50 and installed i myself. it's perfect.

umm the fog(road lamps) come on with the headlights. There is no switch or anything. Try new bulbs for them.

Its wierd though both my head lights and fog lights are out. One was flickering (headlight) before and than went totally out. I checked my fuses and they all seem fine if it was the ballest wouldnt my fog lights still work? or does it controll all my lights? both sides to fail at the same time has me wondering as well

so i accidentally went over a HUGE pothole. after this, my passenger side headlight as well does not work properly. it kinda flickers and wants to go on, but is so dim its useless.

what exactly is a ballast and what does it do? i never cared to learn, but now i guess i need to learn the hard way...

thanks!
