Flashing Xenons ok? Time to warm up..

My friend told me I'm gonna waste my Xenons early if I keep flashing them. I do a lot of highway driving. Sometimes, when 18 wheelers signal to come into the left lane, I flash my lights (pulling on the stalk) to signal him that there is enough room. And he then flashes his marker lights as a "Thank You." This is common signaling. Anyway, I do this just to make it easier on them, especially on high traffic roads when trucks need to pass some idiot going 40 mph.

Do xenons require some kind of warm up time? Is flashing harmful to them?

also, at night i don't flash the high beams 'cause it blinds truckers, i turn the low beams off and then on.

Pulling the stalk flashes the high beams, which are not xenon. Flashing your high beams at night shouldn't blind anyone unless you hold it for a ridiculusly long time. Turning your low beams on and off isn't a good idea.

that is a common exchange between truck drivers. not between cars and trucks.

i think it's funny you do that.

i'm sure every time you turn the hid's on it eats into their lifespan. not something i would worry about.

Actually, whenever I pull the stalk on my 2001, both the xenons AND high beams come on. wtf?

And no, truckers welcome signaling from cars and all vehicles. They just want to make sure there is enough room to switch. I have seem other cars, pick up trucks, suvs, you name it signal truckers.

if you're lights aren't on at all, it flashes both low and high beams.

When flashing (on A-CL), BOTH high and low beams light. And if you are running low-beams, and flash, only your high-beam (9005) lights.

From what people say, HIDs like in our cars (D2s/D2r)will prematurely deteriorate if flashed constantly.

Flashing your HIDs isn't a "good" thing, and maybe bad. Should the 1/8 span decrease in life of the bulb prevent you from using your flashers???....... Don't pick nits of the nuts of nats, it's really up to you!!!!

Nah. Truckers signal each other everytime. Cars don't signal everytime, if at all. BUT when space is limited in high traffic areas, low visibility when raining, etc, truckers welcome the cars flash their headlights to let them know there is enough room. I have noticed many trucks turn on their left turn signal and then never move....then they slowly move in your lane. If you flashed the lights then they would know it's ok and things would happen much quicker.

Just something to help them out. You know it isn't easy driving a monstrous 90,000+ lbs. vehicle with a 16 liter engine and 18 gears.
