yes, i wrapped the headers previously, including my flexpipe. you can see my post about it here . however, i found that if you wrap the flex pipe that eventually the wrap will work it's way loose since it *will* flex a little. or at least that's what i found.

you may be thinking of when people say not to wrap your headers because you can get water and dirt under the wrap and cause the headers to corrode. this is a reality but doesn't happen very often. plus it helps if you remove the wrap once a year and make sure everything is clean.

many people (including me) have wrapped their headers with no issues. properly made headers should be able to withstand much higher temperatures than our exhaust can actually produce. v8 headers on old stangs and such get much much hotter than ours and don't show any problems. i wouldn't worry about this.

I was just told by the who does my exhaust NOT to wrap the bottom pipe... only do the headers... he told me the bottom pipe gets the most heat and that heat wrap will cause them to get hot, crystalize, then eventually crack.. this is coming from a guy who has been doing exhaust on ALL cars for about 30 years... just relaying a message..

i'm not saying he's wrong, it just didn't sound right. when you say it like that though (only wrap the headers) it makes more sense. i misunderstood you before thinking he said not to wrap anything at all.

no, i wrapped mine at the bottom, and he wouldn't work on them until i took the wrap off the bottom! so i never went back and re-wrapped them after he worked on them..

That pop is from backfire, and it is very strange how your outcome result was. I was just in a meet and people heard the way my car sounds, CLPlatano and others. I installed a ring gasket, (like the OEM one) not the cheap aluminum foil looking one, check your gaskets.

Hey I'm new to this forum and I have been reading about the notorious whistling noise. I have an 03 TL-S with some Edge Racing headers which are exactly like Megan headers. I was wondering if anyone has had issues with the downpipe rubbing on the lower radiator support under hard braking. It also does it when turning to the right while accelerating. i need to find a fix for thi or else I'm taking the damn things off. By the way, I live in the North Ga where nobody knows what a TL is.

wussup welcome to the forum. we all learned the hard way not to get cheap when it comes to headers. The best are the comptech. But for your question i think you might want to remove the 2nd flex pipe and weld the stock flex pipe in its place. that sounds like the same problem the 1st batch or megan headers had but im not sure since u have a diffrent brand ? u might want to search the forum

Thanks for the reply. I will be checking on getting it all fixed. I actually bought these off Ebay and the person who sold them to me said they were Megan. When I finished the aution, he said he was out of the Megan headers so he sent me these. I only paid $120 for them so I really can't complain too much. The performance I got from these headers is well worth it to me, if you know what I mean.

yes i know what you mean. you saved 1000 bucks by not buying the comptech. i just got my flex pipe removed for only 25 bucks and my car sound alot better now pritty close to stock and thats what i want. but i still have a little hissing sound to it but not as bad as it was before. now im thinking about taking the oem flex pipe off and putting them on my megan headers but i dont know because im thinking about getting a exhoust witch will drown out the sound any ways

how much does it cost to change just the gaskets? would i still be getting most of the hissing noise from a leak somewhere else... i never retightened my headers after installing them so could this be it???

Also try the round gaskets that look OEM, you can get them at the dealer or any local muffler shop and install between the downpipe and the cat.

now that u got this done im very happy with my megan headers and i saved alot of money. the headers only cost me 100 buck and 25 to remove the flex pipe. when they took my flex pipe off there was a big hole in it from going over a speed bump

i have slight resonance... but it doesn't sound like a bunch of crickets now! i had the flex pipe removed and used oem gaskets instead of using the ones that came with the headers.. i'm happy with the headers so far...

Rattling must be coming from the cat cover, take it to a muffler shop so that they can tighten, hissing is back, change your gaskets, you might of burned the cheap gaskets those headers came with.

When I installed my megan headers I used all of the OEM Gaskets that was on the car from my factory headers. Never had a problem at all. I also did the the Removal of that extra flex pipe too. nice and quiet for me hehe

Sorry for bumping this old thread but. I got sound fixed again. I guess the welds from when i had my resonator put back on came loose or cracked so that was problem. Not the headers. so this fix really works thanks Kahrupt.
